Because if all goes well you'll be fine if you have a good OB, but if you/baby has the slightest issue Maimonidies is the last place you want to be in. No specific reasons, just the general opinion from people with terrible experiences there!

Did you try Dr. Douek? HE's affiliated with NYU. Extremely compassionate and understanding with great bedside manners, He REALLY tries to avoid c- sections if possible. I had a very positive experience with him when I had my twins (even though there were complications). I hoe this helps.

To give a few reasons why you shouldn't give birth in Maimonides:

Firstly I was in labor for 2 1/2 days for no reason when I couldn't even have delivered vaginally because I had such high blood pressure and my baby 'b' (who comes out second) was larger than baby 'a'. It's supposed to be the opposite so I should have been given a c section right away instead of waiting until me and my two babies almost died to give me an emergency c section.

I was initially given magnesium to slow down the labor...too much magnesium. When they realized they shouldn't have given me so much, they had to give me pertosin to speed it up. Talk about a lot of extra drugs in your system for no reason.

When I was given too much magnesium it started to make my kidneys fail and nobody realized until my urine started coming out a really crazy color. They quickly stopped the magnesium drip but not without causing damage.

They sent in a student to check how far along I was and before I could even protest, she pulled out my mucus plug on purpose. My husband overheard her afterward talking to her head dr. saying she pulled it out so she can try and get my labor moving. This was a big big problem for me and caused more complications.

They had to give me the epidural in my back 3 times. Yes 3 times. The first time I fainted because they did not know what they were doing and it was extremely painful. The second time they finally got it in but they gave me the wrong needle! It was too short for my back and had to take it out. They had to do it a third time with the right needle. I still have nightmares about this.

The epidural machine batteries stopped working and the machine was beeping. My husband asked the nurses a few times if the beeping meant something was wrong they all said no. Finally one nurse realized that the batteries were dead and it took them a few hours to come back with new batteries.

I was there over a fast day and the dr that was delivering me actually fasted that day. This was a real danger to anyone she delivered. Then she left for several hours on her call to 'break her fast.' My husband later asked a shaila and was told a dr. delivering babies should never be fasting. (according to halacha, its usually common sense)

I had to wait on line for the delivery room. Seriously. I was ready to deliver and push in the morning and had to wait until 1:00 in the afternoon because there were only 2 delivery rooms and there was a line. Insane.

When I finally got in the room my actual dr. didn't come to deliver me, (where the babies come out of) she was monitoring my babies heart beats over my stomach...which was odd to me...I thought she'd be delivering me. In the end she did end up doing the c section.

They started giving me the c section before the drugs kicked in so I felt it in the beginning.....

In the end I was in labor for 2 1/2 days, pushed for almost an hour with no headway (pun intended), the first baby retracted back in every time she was almost out and she my canal for the 2/1/2 days straight, they lost the heartbeat on my second baby and my body started failing so gave me an emergency c section.

When I was being discharged I couldn't walk because of the c section and they refused to send me a wheel chair. I had to have 2 people help me walk out of the hospital. It took a really long time and was really painful.

A lot more happened honestly I don't and can't think about it. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. I wouldn't recommend anyone going there. I was supposed to deliver in NYU but was already in labor and couldn't be transferred from Brooklyn to Manhattan in labor with twins.

However not shocking to hear this, I heard such stories on Maimonidies countless times! It's the worst hospital!!!

I heard years ago that a certain Rebbe advised his Chasidim not to use Maimonidies stating that the Malach Hameves is rampant there.
I had complications with my last pregnancy and two of my grandparents died there due to medical negligence.

dear op,
less than 6 months ago, I delivered twins vaginally with no complications in a great manhattan hospital with an incredible dr. I wanted to schedule a c section but he told me as long as baby A is head down there is no reason. And he was willing to flip B vertex if necessary. It was cash. If interested, please let me know. I'll provide an e-mail.
twins are delivered in operating room ( even its a vaginal delivery), no hospital would allow a midwife to do that.
if you really want to be natural, there are midwives that would do a twin home birth. And they are prepared for emergencies. But no united health care community plan.

In general, midwives are better trained for twin deliveries because they respect the body enough to allow the baby to come out naturally rather than taking control of the situation by inducing or section-ing. Also, they are more experienced with breech deliveries and external versions, both of which are especially useful for twin deliveries.

twin babies are born one at a time, just like singletons.
in fact, I have read that when Baby B is breech a vaginal outcome is easier to obtain than in singleton delivery b/c everything is still open from Baby A.

I delivered my twins with Park Slope Midwives in Methodist.

When I went into labor, a Dr. that they have on staff was called. He napped while the midwives labored with me. At delivery time, when I was wheeled into the OR they called the Dr. My first wad deliverd by midwife, second was a joint effort of (me Smile

midwives(3 at the time) and said Dr.

BH it was a good experience, best I could've hoped for. If I were to expect twins again(in THEORY ONLY!!!) I would use them again.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Recovery at Methodist was fine.

BH I didn't need the NICU so can't answer that.

I'm "Klausenberg". The thing is that these days the Rebbe himself will OK anyone to have a "regular" delivery there. He still recommends not to have any procedures etc there.
My own experience was birth there for dd#1 started out "regular" and ended up one of those horrific birthing stories. To make a long story short I could have sued Maimonides easily and won. Long story. Needless to say child #2 & #3 I had in Staten Island and had a very good experience.
My first cousin also died at Maimonides a couple of years ago. Was a cute 2 year old girl and because of negligence on the hospitals part, she is dead. I do think they sued.

Yes, they ADVERTISE that they deliver twins. They are DEMs not CNMs if that makes a difference.

Dr Roshan is a massive pro vbac, pro natural delivery dr. But he doesnt take medicaid insurances.
