I don't think you are not allowed. If the BBQ grill is cleaned properly, there should be no problem otherwise I would not be able to have fish on shabbos at all coz my oven is fleishig and I obviously use a fleishig oven dish to make the fish. I think you are better off asking your Rav about this.
Or can you get another grill to fit into your BBQ and use that for fish only?

It depends on your minhag.
there are 3 of them:
1. just do it (clean, of cource)
2. wait 24 hrs
3. do not cook in the same pot at all.

I asked my Rav, (a lubavitcher) he said there is no inyan whatsoever to use only pareve dishes for fish. you may use any fleishig pan, including a BBQ to cook fish. as long as it is perfectly clean.

I'm Lubavitch and was taught when cooking fish you have to have a seperate fish pot and utensils...

Which is why people have special liver racks. BTW, the liver isn't treif, it's just not-koshered yet.

actually you are allowed to use your rack that you usually use for your grill it is allowed because it burns everything up the blood and all. The liver is trief becuase of all the blood that it contains but once you broil out all the blood it is kosher. the only thing you really need is separate utensils to handle the liver before it is broiled. other than that it is fine to use your grill.

You're absolutely right, Supermom. It's been a long time since I've seen liver koshered.

We self-clean (I.e. Kasher) our oven between meat and fish; we have a separate fish pan and fish frying pan. I would assume, though, that the grill kashers itself, so it shouldn't be a problem!
Although, as mentioned previously, some Rabonim hold that fish/meat is not such a strict issur.

fish & meay do not go together. Period.
Besides washing, extra separation (ie separate dishes, waiting) is a humra.
