Serve chicken over rice and pour the sauce over everything. YUUUUUUUMMMM!!!

*I skipped the sherry b/c I didn't have. I did not notice any difference in taste btw my favorite Chinise takeout sweet and sour chicken and this recipe w/o sherry...

*I usually double the veggies and sauce and freeze 1/2 of it for a different time b/c this is time consuming recipe...but it is so darn good! This way, for a quick(er) supper, I stick rice in the oven, do the chicken thing with the batter, and have the ready made sauce.


Do you think it will be good without the pineapple?

Monday: honey mustard drumsticks, rice & lentil dish, fresh salad
Tuesday: omelettes, warm crusty garlic baguettes, (mushroom barley soup?), leafy salad
Wednesay: barbeque meatloaf, crispy potatoes, mixed vegetables
Thursday: grilled hot dogs, buns, pickles, tomatoes, onions, sauerkraut

Black and White Rice Balls
2 cups water
1 Tbsp margarine
1 tsp salt
1 rounded cup white rice
2 tablespoons black sesame seeds, toasted white sesame seeds may be substituted

Bring water to a boil in a small covered pot. Add margarine, salt and rice to the pot. Return the water to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and replace cover. Simmer 18 minutes and remove rice from heat. Take the lid off the pot to cool rice a bit. Scoop rice into balls with an ice cream scoop and your hands. Dampen hands with water to work with rice if it is very sticky. Set rice balls on a plate and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds (I toast them with some salt.).

Tues: bagels and mock-potato soup (diet), macaroni for the kids
Wed: bbq- chicken, hot dogs, vegetables, and french fries
Thurs: takeout (prob pizza)

Crockpot stew isn't really a recipe. It's just something my husband and I made up that we make every so often. Saute onions and brown stew meat and put inside crockpot. Add peeled/cut up potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, squash, mushrooms, and cover with water. Add ketchup, garlic, onion soup mix, beef broth and other spices/condiments. Cook on low for 6 hours. We usually put a bag with rice inside too and let it cook.

The mock potato soup is amazing! I just discovered it in the Dining In Again cookbook. It is so easy to make and delicious!

Mock Potato Soup- Diet

1 onion, diced
1-2 cloves garlic (according to taste), minced
oil for sauteing
2 large zucchinis, peeled
1 lb frozen cauliflower
1 T. salt
dash of (white) pepper

Saute onion and garlic in oil until translucent. Slice zucchini and add to pot, together with cauliflower and spices. Add water until the vegetables are just covered. Cook for half an hour and then blend with a hand blender.

Do you think it will be good without the pineapple?


I personally think that the pineapple is one of the main ingredients that make this dish so good. I'm sure it will taste good without it, but I wouldn't leave it out by choice.

Also, the buffalo sauce recipe is:

1/3 c. Franks Red Hot
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
1/4 c. honey

Mix it in a bot and bring to a boil. Simmer for another 10 minutes.

It took me a while to find a system that worked for me - everybody is different. b4 I had kids, it was a lot easier and last minute. now, I have to plan in advance.

here's what I do:

On motzai shabbos, I take out my planner and I make a potential dinner menu for the coming week. Then I go check the fridge and cupboards to make sure I have everything. In genera;, I do a monthly shop for all dry and canned goods, so I have all the staples at home. I'll go in the beg of the week to buy my fruits, veggies, and dairy. meat and chicken are always in the freezer. If I go shopping for something on the menu, I'll go on Sunday, when I'm serving leftovers and don't have to cook anyway, or Monday morning. The things that I have to buy will be for meals later on in the week.

I used to be the same way. Now I sit down on Thursday or Motzai Shabbos, and write down a menu for the upcoming week. I make a grocery list at the same time with all ingredients needed.

ra_mom, another vote for your suppers!
I read this thread just to see what is your latest and greatest! I have tried a bunch of your recipes and am always pleased Smile

My menu this week:
Sun- shabbos leftovers
Mon- BBQ chicken cutlets with vegetable sauce from cooking with color (yum and easy!)
Tues- French onion soup, garlic baguettes, doughless cali, broc quiche and salmon for dh who fasted
Wed- I buy out supper
Thur- honey mustard chicken, garlic roasted veggies and near asia rice (if we decide to have a bbq then ill just marinate the chicken in bone suckin sauce, cut up the veggies in a tin pan and pour the same sauce over and stick in the grill like that).
