can I ask a question to ra_mom and everyone else who makes a lot of dips?
Whenever I make more than one dip or two, so much challah and dips are eaten, that I don't bother making a full, full meal because only a little likavod shabbos is eaten after the fish course.

We're the same way
Friday night we stop our meal after the soup course. I only make a main coarse when we have guests. Or else I make just one portion for dd to eat after candlelighting. (Which is what I am doing this week. Making just one portion of roasted chicken and roasted potatoes. Although I will be making a full pan of roasted green beans, as we will be eating that instead of salad.)
As far as Shabbos day goes, we usually end up eating the Chulent and pastrami after our Shabbos nap

ok, sounds about right. Shabbos day and night if it's long, we often split our meal and take a break/nap/walk to make room for more.

EXACTLY! For people like me who host large numbers of people (20+) with no outside funding (ok, we receive a couple hundred dollars a year), that is the key to making Shabbos affordable. If I didn't do that (and make a hearty vegetarian soup), people would eat tons of chicken. The dips for the most part are healthy and delicious, so I call it a good way to have lots of guests...
