I bought the black ones with the bit of purple. |
sooo cute!!
So far, the OP hasn't clarified what kind of patterned tights she's referring to. But I dont find anything wrong with the nuetral patterned tights (standard black on black design or something with a really light colored design etc) This is something that is more of a fashion statement between females...Not sure why your hubb would see them differently then standard black tights... but thats just me. |
I mean these type of tights. I also like ribbed designs. I don't think they are something a harlot would wear. Most of the designs I have are in the black color. I feel it's just something different. I don't lke wearing solid colors. Just my personal preference and fashion statement.

what does the size of the leg have to do with it?

A larger leg would stretch the pattern, making it appear more open than it would on a slimmer leg. HTH

ITA. You look like a very high-class harlot. |
You do realise that is very insulting to Lady G. |
I was using "you" in the sense of "one," not in the sense of Lady G herself. Though if the shoe fits... |
I've never met Lady G, but my guess is that she looks beautiful, well put together, and tziniut at all times.
And she's right about the fishnets. If you hold that you need to be in opaque hose 24/7, it wouldn't work for you. But a bit of a subtle fishnet, particularly in the gap between boot and skirt, doesn't look at all hooker-ish.

1. Most patterned tights I've seen are anyway on dark colours (black, charcoal, navy, brown, grey).
2. Most patterned tights I've seen (and wear) are also of high gauge/thickness, like 60-100 denir.
3. OP said patterned tights, not fishnets. Most patterns I've seen are like diamonds/argyles, ribbed, or with floral patterns. Esp with high gauge there's no way you see flesh underneith.
4. I presume OP wears them with tznius (ie knee length or longer) skirt.
On above accounts, I see nothing wrong with patterned tights. But then again, every woman and community to decide what's tznius or not. I mean, how many inches of exposure are we talking about esp if OP can wear them with mid-calf boots?

He tells me that not many women here dress like that and therefore, I shouldn't either. I don't see eye to eye with him on this.
Any suggestions? |
Your husband has a point and if it's "not done" in BP and your husband doesn't want you to be "poretz geder" (for lack of a better expression), you have to decide if this is important enough to you to risk making your husband upset and unhappy.

No, she doesn't mean fishnet, but in general tights with a pattern (except cable tights, which scream "kindergarten") are considered provocative. This I was blissfully unaware of until a guy told me.
When there is a difference of opinion between a male and a female as to what is provocative in women's wear, I will accept the man's opinion. Women know what they THINK men like...men know what they like. |
So now I know why my father didn't let me wear patterned pantyhose in high school, even though all my classmates did. (Over 25 years ago in YOB, believe it or not! And the principals didn't seem to have a problem with it. Of course, they were women...And those girls are now principals themselves, some of chassidish schools, no less!)

I totally agree. I recently started to notice a lot of women wearing these patterned tights and I think that they are quite provocative (for lack of better word). They call extra attention to your legs, and that is something we try not to do.
This is besides for the fact that a few years ago no lady would be caught dead in them, but hey when something's "in" don't we just all love it. |
I love patterned tights and wear them all the time. You know what this conversation reminds me of? The very first few women who started wearing pointy-toed shoes. Don't worry, the tights will become nerdy one day too...

I agree, I like to wear opaque tights with an inconspicuous pattern. Nothing fishnet or provocative. I jsut get very blah wearing the same old opaque black tights everyday. I'm a colorful person, and there's not much color out there these days, but at least I have some patterns to play with. Also, I've seen different color opaque tights, such as deep purple, which I htink would look really neat matched with a purple top. Haven't had the guts to wear them, being that I am in Flatbush and Boro Park everyday, but I htink I will get a pair when I whip out my boots.

I like the idea of the deep purple... I love colors as well and feel so blah with the same colors every day. I guess that's why patterns appeal to me.
