I love wearing all kinds of different tights with designs on them. My DH feels that they may not be appropriate to wear. I don't see anything wrong with them. We live in Boro Park. He tells me that not many women here dress like that and therefore, I shouldn't either. I don't see eye to eye with him on this.
Any suggestions?

What about just plain black tights with a design? Is that the type he is against?

I don't think there's anything wrong with them perse.
I just don't think that they are refined. They remind me of school girl tights and therefore as a young woman I do not wear them.

In many parts of society, patterned tights imply "harlot". Look at old-time cartoons: the hookers almost always wear fishnet hose.
Let me share an experience I once had: I bought a pair of hose with a very small discreet embellishment, like a nice brooch on a suit, which I was saving for a simcha and thought would get me a lot of compliments from the other ladies. One day, stranded with no clean hose in the right color, I wore these to work. One of my male coworkers made a very appreciative remark, and that was the first and last time I ever wore those hose.
Moral of the story, if you're not planning to call attention to your legs, don't wear anything other than plain hose.

Are you talking about textured tights, like cable knit, or prints of various colors?
(Louche, I don't think she's referring to fishnet...)

As you say, there are patterns and there are PATTERNS; there's black cable knit, and there's red and white argyle.
If I wanted to wear patterned tights, but was afraid because they weren't prevalent in my community, I would keep the pattern subtle, and wear them with boots, so only a small piece showed between the top of the boot and the bottom of my skirt.

No, she doesn't mean fishnet, but in general tights with a pattern (except cable tights, which scream "kindergarten") are considered provocative. This I was blissfully unaware of until a guy told me.
When there is a difference of opinion between a male and a female as to what is provocative in women's wear, I will accept the man's opinion. Women know what they THINK men like...men know what they like.

How fat are your legs? Is it an open pattern? He might be correct.

I totally agree. I recently started to notice a lot of women wearing these patterned tights and I think that they are quite provocative (for lack of better word). They call extra attention to your legs, and that is something we try not to do.
This is besides for the fact that a few years ago no lady would be caught dead in them, but hey when something's "in" don't we just all love it.

You can wear cute kiddie ones in the house if you'd like but on the street solids are usually the only ones that go.

I thought you were going to ask a fashion related question about patterned tights--like what type of clothes they look good with.
I don't find patterened tights non-tzniut. It also depends on how you wear it. Even fishnets can look classy if you wear them with boots and only a couple of inches of them are seen.

I bought the black ones with the bit of purple. |
sooo cute!!
So far, the OP hasn't clarified what kind of patterned tights she's referring to. But I dont find anything wrong with the nuetral patterned tights (standard black on black design or something with a really light colored design etc) This is something that is more of a fashion statement between females...Not sure why your hubb would see them differently then standard black tights... but thats just me.

You do realise that is very insulting to Lady G.

I was using "you" in the sense of "one," not in the sense of Lady G herself. Though if the shoe fits...
