Is there anything you need to do/buy before the 3 weeks? You have only 2 weeks from tomorrow !!!!!

Another three weeks without music? I wonder if I can take that.

Last year I was desperate and had to buy bras during the 9 days. Over the year I've seen which ones I like the best, and want to get some more. Most probalby it's allowed to buy underwear at that time, but I am going to hit the July 4th sales if I can. Other than that, I'm not in the market for anything else right now.

Yikes.. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to find out how the 3 wks and the 9 days specifically will apply to me b/c I'm due on the 2nd of Av.

You can't swim or take trips during the 3 Weeks?

All I can say, is we don't swim and we avoid any major trips, especially flying (which isn't hard to do bc since when do we get to take off time from work except for yomim tovim?).

Those who mekareved me were particular to avoid this.

I remember hearing that if you didn't swim before the 3 Weeks, you couldn't first swim during that time ... I've asked around and I'm not sure it has a mokor in halacha.

We had a leak in our bathroom and we want to fix the ceiling and paint the walls; I want that done before the 3 Weeks since I'm not sure you can do improvements during that time. I guess we could ask a rov.

I wonder what the source is. I've only heard of avoiding swimming and trips during the 9 Days.

I have heard that if you don't start swimming before the Three Weeks, you shouldn't start during them. Nothing about trips.

Dunno. Good question. But, since we wouldn't be swimming or taking a big (ie. flying over an ocean) trip anyways, it's really not so difficult to "avoid" doing so....

I wonder if it's better (though I'm sure it's not halachah), to wait for my kids physicals until after the 3 weeks. They are already a couple mos late. I'm not too concerned abtou that, but I do need an up to date one for ds sooner rather than later (to register for some educational things)..

My understanding is to avoid swimming and leisure travelling to minimise "sakana" (danger)--3 weeks are not good time to engage risky (or at least deemed risky in olden times) activities. Ditto for things like bringing lawsuits.

Now my question is, do people postpone or downscale bnei/benot mitzvah? For our DD, we did postpone babynaming (we're sephardim so we have a separate celebration instead of a quick one on shabbat).

Also how about the children's birthday parties during the 3 wks?

This is the understanding I have, but again, I never asked a specific shailah or for "inside" sources.

DD's bday falls within July 4 vacation week, and we did her party (she turned 4) this past Sunday. We asked the Rav and since children that age don't understand/aren't obligated, it was ok. Aside from singing happy birthday there was not much huge celebration, just the usual bday fun and cake.

Why are you? It's too late for any plans, the three weeks started already last week...
