I love this recipe. Only one pot, no colander etc. Everyone eats it too.
1 onion chopped
1 lb ground beef or chicken
1 1/2 cup macaroni (or whatever shape you like) uncooked
2 cups water
1 cup tomato sauce
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tsp sugar
garlic powder to taste
black pepper to taste
onion powder to taste
In a 4 quarts pot, brown onions and chop meat until cooked. Drain off the fat. Mix in the rest of the ingredients. Stir. Cover. Cook over low hear, stirring occasionally for 45 to 60 minutes.
You could add chopped spinach to this for a slightly healthier version.
I am going to try it with vegetarian meat and see how that works.

We also make this and call it "Beefaroni". I often also add a diced pepper (red usually) and saute with the onions.

Yeah, we used to. Unfortunately some of my kids call it barfaroni, so now I have a hard time calling it beefaroni.

After browning the meat, I put this in the crockpot with the sauce and raw macaroni when we were going to be out for several hours and I knew we'd come home hungry. It came out great.

If you do it in the crock pot, is everything else exactly as above? And how long in the crock pot? High or low?
Thanks so much for the recipe... I'm always looking for fast/easy one pot dinners :-)

Is this from Dining In? I've been making it since I got the cookbook last summer, it's EASY and yummy! It must be the same recipe. Just be careful to leave it on a VERY low flame and stir every so often to keep it from sticking.

I wish there was some way I could make a one pot meat and pasta dish without the use of tomatoes (sauce), which I cannot have.
Any ideas?

My sil gave this recipe to me several years ago. I guess it's a pretty typical recipe to feed a bunch of kids cheaply and easily.

I make it regularly with ground dark turkey and also add a finely chopped pepper to saute with the onion.

How did turn out using soy meat? What brand did you use? My DD & family are coming to visit & DSIL doesn't eat red meat. I think they'd all like this, inc. kidlets.

I once made it with soy meat during the 9 days. It can out fine, but our family just wasn't used to the taste/texture of soy meat so we didn't care for it. Someone used to it would probably like it.
