If I smothered the soy stuff in grated cheese maybe it would disguise it enough for them to eat!

Love this recipe -
I add mushrooms, peppers, celery whatever's on hand to the ground beef
I use manwich sauce from a can and add two can's worth of water to the pot
It freezes wonderfully! I make a big batch and freeze some. I usually mix one pkg of ground shoulder and 1 pkg of ground chicken/turkey to lower the fat

This sounds like a great quick dinner idea. I wonder if you can sub. tomato paste for the ketchup? 1/2 cup sounds like a lot of ketchup to me.

Sure, but you might want to adjust seasonings a little since tomato paste is much more bland than ketchup.

Just finished eating this dish. My picky daughter even loved it. It was great!
And it was ready in 35 min. (even with whole wheat pasta. )
Thanks for the recipe!

How many does this recipe feed? My boys ages 2-8 eat a LOT. I imagine I'd have to double this?

Thanks so much for the recipe... I'm always looking for fast/easy one pot dinners :-)

It's hard to answer because crockpots vary, but I think I put it on high till it was bubbling, then turned it to low when I went out. Just make sure there's plenty of liquid in there.

I make a mac n meat with tomato sauce but I have done a rice and meat with out sauce I brown the meat add one part raw rice two parts water and either spices that we lik such as pepper garlic onion pwder sometimes italian seasoning or some oher blend or I sometimes just use some onion soup mix and justkeep mixing it I have already done it for people who cannot handle anything but fresh garlic. I have done it on the stove or browned the meat and just put it all in the crock pot to cook on low.

why do you have to brown the meat before putting it in the crockpot?
