For practical reasons I often use the plastic bag liners. But I’m a little worried about it even though I only use the ones marked bpa free. My dh gets upset when I don’t because it’s crazy to clean. I noticed on Amazon they have silicon non disposable liners. Would you use it? It says it’s food grade but you never know with these Amazon brands. Also this is for Cholent which is cooking for a very long time. What do you think is best ? Or am I over thinking this all together?

I personally don’t use the liners but spray the sides of the crockpot with Pam before making cholent and I find that it’s much easier to clean afterwards.

I use parchment paper. It makes cleaning a breeze and no plastic that icks me out.

The crock itself probably has lead.
Pick your poison.
I pick lead over plastic.

Same.
I always loved the idea of liners but cooking in plastic - even supposedly safe plastic - made me uncomfortable, so I was stuck with a miserable cleaning job week in and week out. Then I was visiting someone's home where they had lined the entire pot with parchment paper and I was kicking myself for not being smart enough to come up with this on my own. It's a total game changer.

How do you line with parchment paper so it doesn’t leak?

Thanks for the great ideas. Is all parchment considered food safe? Meaning is it safer than food grade plastic? It is something I use all the time.

Buy unbleached.

Even with overlap some liquid will get through but it's very different than caked on chunks of food. Clean up is very easy.

Do you crumple and wet the parchment first?
How many pieces?

Nope I just lay one sheet of the pre cut type in a 4 qt round crockpot. Once I start adding ingredients it all flattens out. We like a thicker cholent vs a soupier one so there is minimal leakage.
