How do I know when to switch dd from training bra to a real bra. She refuses to go into a store to get fitted. She’s going to camp this summer for the first time and as much as the girls are to the Tznius type I know they all see what goes on. I don’t want her to feel different in either way (regarding what kind of bra she wears).

Give her a measuring tape, and teach her how to measure herself. There are lots of instructions on line, if you don't know. You can print it out to make it easier for her.

Once you have an approximate size, go to the shop together, and pick out half a dozen options in the approximate size. She can try them on - without you in the room - and decide what fits, or if you need to look for something different.

If she's not a large size, she can wear the supportive kind of sports bra.

I don’t know the situation everywhere but there are some communities that have specialty shops or a “bra lady” as the girls call it, and many many junior high aged girls go there. Is there someone like that in your town? Maybe if she knows that that’s what a lot of other girls do she’d feel more comfortable making the trip?

How old is she? Do you think it's supportive enough?

She’s 12. It’s borderline supportive.

There are bra stores that have a lady who measures. But I think she’s feel more comfortable if I just bought her some options. Forget being measured she doesn’t even like being seen in the store! I was the same as a preteen… I got over it

Dd is the same age, same issue. She told me her bra wasn’t doing the job anymore so I offered to take her to the store. She was resistant so I was like “fine then we won’t go”. In the end she agreed. A non-Jewish lady measured her on-top of a shell. They are very experienced with this stage. She tried on something, it was great, all approved with a shell. She was embarrassed for us to be seen with a bag from the store lol. Never mind they sell a ton of other things besides bras😂. It’s normal and yes she needs to get over herself.

You can order a bunch online for her to try. Or just stick to a very supportive sports bra.

At 12 many are still wearing sports bras. It really depends on if it's doing its job. For camp it's actually much easier and cheaper to keep her in sports bras. You will have to buy more bras than usual for camp. Also, they can be washed in the regular laundry, and dd won't have to be busy hand washing regular bras.

Following...daughter also in a sports bra and I want her to try out some other options. I want to order a few online, any suggestions? For reference my daughter is pretty tiny so underwire sounds crazy. What are the other good options?
