A few months ago, I took my now two year old for a follow up with his GI. They were very please with his gain and growth- he had gone from the 3rd percentile for weight up to the 10th. We went back today for another follow up, and he is back to the 3rd :-( It wasn’t a miscalculation, his pediatrician had the same numbers when we went to him.
Poor kid :-( He has 2 Kate farms shakes a day. I used to give one in the morning, but now I try to hold off until he has eaten breakfast. He usually has a milk bottle before he takes a nap (oat milk- he doesn’t really like regular milk) and he has another shake right before he goes to sleep, when we are saying shema and listening to music.
I try to add fat/calories to his diet, but he eats so little! We got a prescription for periactin, which I hope will help.
One of the things the doc mentioned is the possibility of EoE. My baby has had two swallow studies done, would that have shown up? If not, what does the testing involve? How is it diagnosed?
I use butter or oil when I make pasta, I try to give him avocado. He occasionally eats salmon. He also occasionally will eat an omelet with one egg (which I make with butter or oil) What else can I give him to add calories?

Vanilla ice cream? Mixed with yogurt that has live cultures?

Bread and thick butter? No crusts, to make it easier.

Interesting. So a swallow study would not have picked it up? He likes meat balls, and I use ground lamb which is fattier than ground beef, so I think that’s good. He likes cheese and string cheese. Sometimes he will eat chicken, sometimes not, but I only buy dark meat so I guess that’s good too :-) He’s not such a fan of peanut butter or bread.

Small, but ok for his weight. I don’t remember what percentile he is in. I had him tested for celiac because I have it, he was negative.

I would consider gluten and dairy intolerance anyway. Maybe it's not showing up on the tests

Agree. If there is celiac in the family I'd for sure see if going off gluten makes a difference

My two year old is below the first percentile for over a year now.

A month ago we had a cranial sacral Therapy session (in Brooklyn) where there was a release at “back of head before the crossover “ I honestly don’t exactly know what that means.

That day, My child started eating a wider variety of foods and most importantly added bread to diet. Feeding therapist said there’s a wider range of motion in jaws.

It’s our miracle. Thought I’d share.

Siblings are more likely to share celiac diagnosis than children.

Please don't go off gluten if tests were negative. Don't eliminate food groups if tests don't support it. I don't think a swallow study would show eoe because they take a tiny biopsy from the small intestine and they also check for any stricturesor narrowing of intestine. With eoe there is an abortion issue of the nutrients which could cause weight loss/ slow weight gain. That's why they need a biopsy to rule it out and actually see the level of inflammation

Did he fall down in percentile for height or is he continuing to grow in that area?

This. I am not taking him off of anything at the moment. He tolerates milk and gluten just fine. He was tested for dairy allergy, it was negative.
The GI also mentioned the possibility of doing a wider variety of allergy testing. So far we have don’t tree nuts, gluten, dairy, and something else.

I didn’t ask, but I can look on his chart. I’ll look in the morning.
