Do you feel allegiance to your immediate supervisor? To your company / place of work? To your coworkers?
Would it keep you at your job even if you had an offer elsewhere?

No. I work for the money. I would leave in a heartbeat if I had a better offer. That aside, I give my job my best when I am there

Yes. It’s almost the only reason I work there. I work for a community cause/facility that I feel is meaningful and important. The appreciation I get from the participants and staff (my coworkers/supervisors etc) are also what helps keep me going. I get paid fairly according to the hours I put in. I’m very part time so don’t earn much.
I have an advance degree and took a break from that career since it demands long hours and less flexibility. When my youngest will iyh be in school longer hours I hope to iyh go back to my career, but still give my time to this community job. I hope I’ll be able to do both!

I didn’t when I was younger, but as I get older I do. I know that “the big company” doesn’t necessarily care about me, but at the same time they have been extremely good to me in terms of salary and flexibility and other benefits. So it’s common hakaras hatov to feel loyal and want to do a good job. That being said, there are many, many things that I dislike about the job. But now that I am older, I have an increased ability to “suck it up” and get on with it.

I used to not have any allegiance. Was completely mistreated by my bosses, treated like garbage or a secretary when I am a fully licensed and competent staff member. I started looking for another job after about a year I was so sick of it. Nothing worked out for various reasons so I stuck it out.
Almost took another job but then covid hit and my field was overtaxed so I stayed as it was better than other similar company's policies. Then something shifted at work and now I love it. I am treated with respect, given appropriate work assignments, and while still underpaid compared to elsewhere I am given certain benefits and flexibility when needed. I am staying and even asked to take on more responsibilities.
It really all depends on the way bosses treat you.

No, not anymore. I've been burnt in the past by a previous job that I was loyal to and it was a very painful experience. I learned my lesson.

I work 3 jobs. My main source of income is from working in the public school system. I stay because I'm good at what I do, the pay is great, and my supervisor is really good. However, I never take home work, or deal with anything outside of school hours. I used to care much more, and went above and beyond. Then I realized nobody's paying me more to work extra hours so now I only deal with parents and use my work email during school hours.
The other 2 jobs I do are with frum kids, along the same lines as what I do in the daytime, except I care. I voluntarily put in extra hours modifying work for them, I speak to their parents and teachers, and I really, really care. I want to see them succeed.

I used to. But when a demeaning and micromanaging bully gets hired because of a friendship with the boss, and starts throwing me and other longtime loyal team members under the bus because of her own ego…hard to continue to feel allegiance even though I do have a strong sense of loyalty to the boss and our mission.

I hate my supervisor. He’s an awful mean person. I love my work, I love my clients. I work in a non profit doing work that very meaningful to me. It’s very challenging because on the one hand I want to leave so badly because I hate the people I work for, but I adore my coworkers and love the work itself. Very challenging. No feeling of loyalty to those I work for because they are awful to me, but I feel tremendous loyalty to my clients who I know I get to help every day. Sigh.

Can you share what shifted? Did you do something to bring the change about? I am in a similar situation and it’s so awful. I know I do amazing work. But treated like garbage by higher ups.

Yes. It’s what keeps me here even though there are many days I wish I could leave.

No allegiance. Just know that nobody is loyal to you, but yourself.
I give 100%+ of myself because that's who I am and how I operate. But I'd leave in a heartbeat if I could (financially).

I used to feel allegiance to my job and then I burned out. I now own my own company and I contract out to different companies for various freelance work. I have one main company I contract for which I enjoy, but if someone wanted me for more hours at a higher rate I'd prioritize the higher rate. My allegiance is to my mental health and more money for the same or less hours is what's best for me.
