Would you accept a job in a corporate office where they don't allow more than 8 weeks maternity leave?
This isn't something they told me about at my interview. I heard about this from someone who works there.

Yes, 8 is generous where I live. In the past I took less, 8 is the most I’ve ever taken.

I'm confused. Legally don't they have to allow minimum 12?

This is NY. You get PFL deducted from your pay check every week. You're legally allowed to take disability and then 12 weeks of PFL. Most people I know just take the 12 weeks of PFL.

So then how can the company get away with only allowing 8 weeks?

If there is any change of terms they can dictate how many weeks u can take. Example cutting hours , changing positions. They are required to offer 12 weeks only if you come back to the same job as before.

Honestly I would take the job, pretend I didn’t know about the policy if they didn’t say anything, and when the time comes just play dumb. Hopefully they don’t want to get sued.

The law doesn't obligate them to pay for 12 weeks. It's only about them needing to keep your job.
Maybe people don't take longer than 8 weeks because they can't afford it.
But that wouldn't be the only factor in choosing to take the job
It depends what other jobs you have on the table, the terms of the job, the atmosphere in general, etc
