Is this the type of thread that people who gave generously (maybe people of more means) are happy to come post how much they gave while women who gave less are hesitant to post because it looks bad compared to all those high amounts.

I can't be the only one for who $80 is way out of range.

Here the playgroups charge a lot , ( went up by 50%) over the past couple years and the Morah is the owner , making all the profit. That being said hakaras hatov is appropriate I give a small gift such as a cookbook (around $30) . When my kids went to babysitters with a bunch of Morah’s I gave them one gift card of 75-100 to a food establishment they would order a nice lunch for themselves one day .

Last year I gave a nicely wrapped gift that was about $10-15. This year I spent a bit more (I’m not sure why) and I gave to both Morah’s $40 cash in a card.
After I gave my $40 I was regretting it and thinking it would’ve looked nicer if I gave a $40 cookbook all wrapped up.

I think a gift for $20 may look nicer than just giving a twenty dollar bill.

I promise you every teacher would rather the cash than a gift

I give $50 to the Morah and $20 to each assistant (2) and I think that’s pretty standard here. I would’ve loved a class collection which would be significantly less; but once I give on my own I feel like $ is most appreciated and the amounts I gave were right down the middle road.

I plan on giving $36, I would rather give $25 but I’m scared that it’s nebach ( obviously I would rather give even more , but I’m trying to give the least acceptable amount because that’s what I can do right now )

I’m shocked I thought standard was $20. So I’ve been giving too little all along when I gave $25???

Thanks for your input, and for everyone who gave input.

I was planning on giving 20-25, so you say that's acceptable?

And what's better, cash- or check- or generic debit card?

I gave $50 because the Morah charges below the going rate. 25 is for sure nice also!
I like to give cash so they can do with it as they wish.

I give $10-$15 to a popular coffee shop. I was a babysitter and teacher within the last 5 years (diff years) and always got from $10-$50 . Didn’t look at anyone like a nebach- it’s a GIFT you give what you want/can afford and the recipient should be appreciative. I never understood being embarrassed of how much I give.. my moto always is I’m more embarrassed to go into debt than to live within my means . I think the people that give a lot are more likely to reply to your post. I think $20-$25 is generous especially when you have lots of kids ..I’m curious if babysitters would say majority gave more than that?! Maybe a diff area than me cuz that wasn’t my experience.
