I got offered a job which, if I take it, will cause us to lose our Medicaid/low cost health insurance. The job pay half my premium for health and full dental, that’s it.
If I take it we’ll be making about 90k combined.
I did the cost estimate on marketplace and the plans cost aver 1k a month for me and my baby, and marketplace will help a little and bring it down to around 850. So I’ll have to pay half of that a month , plus meet the deductible and out of pocket costs.

It’s my first time doing this. Am I missing something? Is it worth it to take the job or rather make less money but be able to stay on Medicaid? I can’t predict how often I’ll be at the dr or need prescriptions or medication, be pregnant and giving birth, plus my baby will probably need the doctor pretty regularly.

When you take a new job you want to consider if there is room for growth in the new company, or if taking this new job will help you land better jobs in the future. It's not just about what you're earning right now.

A healthshare might be a good option for you if everything else about this job seems ideal.

They pay half of a plan you pick, or cover half the cost of their plan that they offer?

I’m not sure. Either way I’ll be paying a lot more than I want to

You won't know what you have to pay until you fint out their rates. Ask them for details about the health plans.

It depends how high you want your ceiling to be.
If you’re fine staying under a table figuratively then don’t take the job.
If you want to have more opportunities more room for growth and more benefit chances, take the jump.

Working right now is hard for me tbh due to various reasons. This job is good because the hours are not too long, I’m doing it to socialize and feel productive, but also for the salary which I don’t want to see going all toward insurance and babysitter
As of now I don’t see myself staying at this job for more than a year or two.

There’s definitely room for growth but it’s not major. No degree, not a whole career…

Who says the job will offer room for growth? She has to evaluate that. Room for growth at what rate? 10 years down the line for 5 years down the line. Makes a big difference

If you live in NJ, your baby should still be eligible for Medicaid. Not sure about other states but worth looking into since children use drs the most often. Staying on medicaid will limit you in a lot of ways. Even if it hard for you to work I'm sure you are hoping your husband will hopefully start earning more.

Not in nj
Yes bh his job has tremendous room for growth. He just started a few months ago. They also offer health insurance but we don’t know the details yet, he will find out, and it only starts after a year. We basically just got married so we want to stay on Medicaid until he’s more settled and I’m so scared of regular insurance it’s so expensive.
Basically im working now to save aggressively. If I can’t save because I’m paying for insurance it’s not worth it. I don’t have a degree and I’m not planning on starting a whole career that I’ll be in for years, and it’s not that kind of job anyway
