My baby had reflux and was impossible to feed for a year. Was a terrible sleeper as well. Anyone have any tried and true tips to prevent it this time around?

Just so you know, studies show that the trauma reflux babies cause their mama is real.
Formula or breast milk?
Did you use all the medications, up to an including nexium?

Feed him as upright as you can. Burp frequently.

That’s so validating. It’s years later and I’m still terrified to have another reflux baby. I tried breastfeeding but wasn’t going well so ended up doing formula but baby literally would push the nipple out of his mouth until he was about a year. Could not feed my child. I tried medication including nexium and it helped up a little and then we went backward again.
Holding baby upright did nothing.

The best thing you can do is to set yourself up for success with breastfeeding. Work with a lactation consultant before and after the baby is born. Plan to be feeding the baby around the clock for the first month.
Yes, breastfeeding babies can have reflux too, but it's less common.
Take good quality probiotics during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
Start solid foods at 4 months.
Also, use the techniques to prevent a feeding aversion. This blog post is great but I strongly recommend her book also. https://www.babycareadvice.com.....rsion
Just so you know, even though reflux can run in families, reflux that bad probably won't happen again. Sounds like you had a behavioral bottle aversion take over at some point, even after you medicated the reflux.

Any suggestions for me and baby? I take probiotics but not sure if they’re good quality.

Feed upright and burp ever few minutes, and hold upright for a few minutes after feeding.

I actually bought the book and followed it because I was so desperate. His feeding only improved for a short time when I got him on a good medication but it didn’t last. I still do think it was part aversion caused by reflux. Funny thing was that at a year he started liking bottles.

I’ve heard that the ones that need to be refrigerated are best. I use megafood.

But only if they're kept refrigerated! So don't buy them on Amazon.
L reuteri is one strand that has been shown to help, especially with reflux

Starting to like bottles at a year old lines up perfectly with a feeding aversion. (Because that's when you stop to care. So all the pressure's off.) If there's a physical thing like reflux, then taking off the pressure is only going to have halfway. While the pain is there, you try to prevent the aversion from developing and after the pain is treated, your baby will eat better. If the aversion develops the during the pain then even treating the pain won't make them eat after.
(Curious who recommended the book to you? Was it on the site?)

Feed baby as upright as possible. Keep baby upright for at least 30 minutes after feeding. My baby slept in the 4 moms bouncer for the first 6 months.
Burp frequently.
Start solids at 3-4 months. Try getting millet baby cereal because it really helps keep food down but doesn’t constipate
Frequent baths help
Give probiotics but make sure to alternate with a different kind every 2 months because your body gets used to them.
We gave my baby Pepcid in the morning and Prevacid in the evening.
Research best formula for reflux because that makes a big difference.
Make sure you’re using good bottles. Dr browns anti-colic and Philips avent anti-colic are the top two for reflux

I had a very cranky baby with my first
Was very traumatic
For my last two I went off of dairy and eggs while nursing them and they were BH happy babies. My biggest recommendation would be to go off of dairy already 1.5 weeks before you are due, or at least once baby is born. I did eggs too...
Just sharing my anecdotal story but for me it was totally worth it

First of all, you have all my sympathies! Reflux babies are a real trauma, no jokes. My 2 babies had such bad reflux that it's a joke me and my husband say that I'm not having another baby till my youngest's bar mitzva 😂! (Not JUST cuz of the reflux I had it very very hard for many reasons and besides I hope I do have a baby before his bar mitzva lol but you get the point...) The first thing I can tell you is that reflux most definitely happens to nursing babies, and from what I hear even more than formula. Aside from the fact that it's so much more emotionally draining when they're nursing because they're not pushing the bottle away, they're pushing YOU away...
I so wish I had a magic cure for you but I don't Daven hard. And know that it's not forever... I absolutely adored nursing my baby once his reflux cleared up, it was all worth it. I never dreamed I could nurse him calmly with his staying still and eating without squirming and pulling back and shreiking every 5 seconds, but they do outgrow it eventually.
I went off so so many foods including dairy, tomato based products, and more. I can't say it made it better but I do know that when I DID eat one of these foods especially dairy, it made it so much worse... so it's up to you...
Lots and lots of luck! And it should be bishaa tova and the smoothest experience ever!!

With nursing you can control the diet. With formula your only choices are dairy, soy, or elemental (hypoallergenic). Each has their own problem for reflux babies.
Of course nursing babies can still have reflux, but you can go off dairy and soy and that helps most of them. That's not an option with formula. (Hypoallergenic formula can make reflux worse although it does help some.)

My last one had such bad reflux, cried for a year, didn’t eat and didn’t sleep for a year. The hardest longest year of life. I took probiotics during pregnancy and I gave probiotics after birth. Medication didn’t help. It was awful
