your students take notes while you talk?
or you give over the lesson and they listen and then you go over the lesson again in very short to have them write the points down?
8th grade and 10th grade class.

Taking notes is a skill they are still learning at this age, and you need to help them develop it. Use the board, give them title headings, dictate central points, and give them a very clear summary to write down at the end.
