I’m looking for success stories of people who lost weight without using medication or surgery.
Can you please include:
- age
- initial weight
- height
- how many lbs you post
- how long it took
- what you did
- how long did you keep it off for
- bonus: how many kids? When was your last delivery?

I actually did this kind of thread as research both on here and on Facebook a few years ago and got very interesting results. Kind of depressing results but I can share if your interested.
My actual question was asking if anyone has maintained over 50 lbs weight loss at least 8 years and had a least one child during that time - what did they do?

Consistency is key
Good habits treats/ cheats occasionally

No grazing or eating for comfort

Only when hungry

Regular healthy - portions control
healthy - not processed or takeout

Walking everyday
Regular activity, 20 min or more

I’m talking to myself here but if you talk with a nutritionist that’s what you’ll hear.

I would check out Ilana muhlstein- I have watched a load of her videos on YouTube. She lost 100lbs and has kept it off and I believe she lost it before having any of her kids.

40
Started at 85kg
164cm
I lost 18kg (x2.2 for lbs) = 67kg
I gradually changed my diet (cut out junk, cut down carbs, no sweet drinks, no gluten, no eating after 7pm, got used to eating less and reducing my appetite). I also walked a lot. Whenever I could.
I began in April 2023. By October 2023 I had lost 10kg (75kg). Then I joined a gym, starting exercising 3x per week (swimming + pilates). By December I was 67kg.
Now it's Aug 2024. I'm up 3kg at 70kg and waver between 69-71kg. I've taken a break from the gym and see the difference in my body.... but I know that that's life. There are times you have the strength and times you don't. The main thing is to keep going, don't give up, just try to keep making good choices and remind yourself how good you feel when you're healthy.
5 births, youngest kid is 8. (I wouldn't have had the strength or freedom before that).

So you stay on the same food plan until your body levels out?
I’ve done it in the past. I kind of remember it was 4 ounces of protein at each meal (3) with weighed and measured vegetables with lunch and dinner and a fruit with breakfast. Maybe two fats a day and no carbs? Is that right?

I've lost about 65 lb over the last few years. Had a baby in between, gained some, then continued weight loss.

Doing low carb and intermittent fasting.

Here's what I found:

Most people who lost a large amount of weight and kept it off were after having kids.

Many people answered the poll who had lost weight but were within the first few years afterwards but we're sure they would keep it off, I didn't count them.

Many people answered what they tried but gained it back but it's their fault and they think theyll go back to it.

The most successful group of long term weightloss and maintenance were people in Overeaters anonymous (or grey sheet) and people who did surgery (very successful were women who did the surgery before kids).

Percentage wise it was really in line with the data science already tells us.
92-95% of people regain their weight within 5 years.
About 4-5% success was OA and surgery.
1-2% success were people who made lifestyle changes over time.

The question I had polled was long term significant weight loss.
