Istanbul, Turkey
CNN
—
At least 3,452 people have died and rescuers are racing to pull survivors from beneath the rubble after a devastating earthquake ripped through Turkey and Syria, leaving destruction and debris on each side of the border.
One of the strongest earthquakes to hit the region in a century shook residents from their beds at around 4 a.m. on Monday, sending tremors as far away as Lebanon and Israel.
In Turkey, at least 2,316 people have died and several thousand are injured and at least 5606 buildings have collapsed, according to Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
In neighboring Syria, at least 1,136 people have died. According to the Syrian state news agency SANA, 656 people have died across government-controlled areas, mostly in the regions of Aleppo, Hama, Latakia, and Tartus.

The footage is chilling, especially watching that building pancake.

It's really really horrible. Thousands of buildings just destroyed, and thousands more that may as well be because people will not return to their homes for (reasonable) fear that those are unstable too. So many people homeless, no electricity, no heat. Turkey does not have a well funded emergency response infrastructure. Some of the poorest people in Turkey (some of whom are Syrian refugees) are in this region. It's nearly apocalyptic.

Israel s sending help to both Turkey and Syria |
What I find interesting is that Syria actually asked for help from Israel (which they later denied),,,
https://www.timesofisrael.com/.....rkey/
...and now, the news articles about Israel's involvement in the region focus almost exclusively on the efforts in Turkey...

Globally, it's currently "bad form" to help Syria (#thanksBashar), so no country will want it publicized, if they will in fact actually send aid to Syria.

I think I read that it was Russia who asked Israel to help Syria. Talk about twisted.
And Israeli rescue team saved 4-5 people in Turkey already.
Over 11,000 dead in Turkey. So awful.
