I got covid 3 months ago and lost my sense of smell completely and then it was slowly coming back.. all of a sudden, recently Things started smelling and tasting chemically, soapy, etc
I’m so freaked. How long should I expect this to last for? Or if this happened to you what was your experience?

I had this. It was a temporary thing on and off for a few weeks for me. Someone told me that it's because there are different kinds of olfactory receptors and they don't all heal at once.

Specific things changed smells differently. Fruit was mostly normal after a week or so. For about a month I would either sniff the coffee in the morning to see if it was good and it would smell like tar, or I would actually make myself a cup of coffee in an act of foolish optimism and then take one sip and pour it down the drain. It's been a few months now and smells are all normal.

I was a long arduous journey. I was forced to only eat things that didn't taste like soap and poo. For me (because it presents differently in each person) it meant living on grilled cheese with sliced vegetables plain cheese and salt, and supper with no seasoning besides for salt and sugar. Anything else was unbearable. I was very grateful that fruits and vegetables tasted normal throughout (the only thing that did).

Wow I’m basically realizing I will have to do the same, only eat the foods that are neutral.
Did your smell come back completely ?

It’s been about 11 months for me now and everything still stinks bad!
I’m at my wit’s end !!!
I can’t go on like this anymore.
Can’t eat any protein, anything that has onion or garlic in it, eggs, some vegetables, some fruits…
Anyone here that knows of a tried and true remedy????
