Not sure which forum this should be in.
Does your male relative with Crohns or colitis often find it hard to go to Shul in the morning because the morning is often a tough time (painful, uncomfortable, or needing to use the bathroom for a long time or very often)?

DH has chrohns and is usually in the bathroom for a long time in the morning.
There are some shuls that have non stop minyanim all morning so he usually stops in there to daven. Yes, sometimes he misses minyan.

Hi, OP,
You posted your question a while ago.
But I'm looking into this at the moment as dh needs to go to bathroom 3-4 times in the morning and also finds it difficult to make it to the minyan. He is embarrased because of it but I also think there is a condition involved.
Is it difficult to make a diagnose for Crohns?
I read a bit about it and Boruch Hashem most symptoms don't apply.

My husband doesn’t have a diagnosis for anything but I want him to go to a gastro specialist for this reason. His bathroom habits are what everything else on his schedule revolves around in the morning. I think if a problem pervades your regular functioning it’s a problem to be looked at.
He says it’s because before davening you’re supposed to be “empty”. I only live with one man. Hard to know what’s normal.

IBS has similar symptoms. See a GI specialist.
(I have IBS and colitis, and mornings are HARD)

Hi! Dh has colitis but I married him after he was diagnosed so I don't know details. You'll need to see a GI, I think it's called. I can look it up later.

My son goes to three different shuls on Shabbos morning, one for Shacharis, one for Krias haTorah, and one for Mussaf. He's on the SCD diet but he has his better and worse days.
Some days I barely say Birchos haShachar before shkiah (especially in the winter) but BH not so often. Still I am probably a bit OCD with thinking I can't daven because I might have to go soon. (I was once in shul on Rosh Hashana & had to run home in the middle of a tefillah.)
It's a very challenging situation, and not for nothing does the Gemara say that someone with stomach issues does not go to Gehenom.

My son was diagnosed with Crohn's 4 years ago after having severe pain in his side which passed after a few hours but we checked it out anyway. He is on Humira. Never missed a minyan, day of school or had one single inconvenience from his condition aside from semi yearly Dr. visit and taking his shot every other week since that first attack of pain. No discomfort at all ever. Posting this so people should be aware that Crohn's is very very different for each individual and at least 20% are assymptomatic.

I'm very happy for those who have relatives who are symptom free.
This thread is not intended for that. It's more for chizuk for my situation, where Dh is symptomatic and often misses minyan.

Sorry about that.
Is he doing anything to try to remove the symptoms? Or is he just trying to leave things as is, but work with it?

My father has colitis and DavenEd at home for years. Now he goes to minyan but gets up early for bathroom. Honestly as a kid I was so embarrassed. But now as an adult I understand.
Once my father found a better dr and treatment plan life became more manageable.
BH I have 2 siblings and a DD with crohns who live normal lives. Meds have come a long way changing how ppl deal and preventing bad damage (like my dad had from years of misdiagnoses and no treatment).
I think ppl add this bec they are scared to attach the stigma that everyone with crohns suffer.

He had a bad reaction to the last med so for now he's just dealing with the symptoms which are manageable but really act up many mornings.

I know this wasn’t intended to be a med discussion. The first meds my dd was on put her in the hospital and out of commission for a long time. But once we found the right one. It was life changing.

Yes, I understand. I am sorry if I hi-jacked your post I just felt I had to bring this to attention as I constantly see mention in the Jewish media etc of the horrific nature of Crohns and I really feel it is a terrible disservice.

His dr is in the city, we are in Lakewood. He also is due for a colonoscopy but has been delaying. It's a whole ordeal, with two days being out of commission (prep day and colonoscopy day) and needs someone to check him out of the hospital and drive him there...
It's hard.
And he is scared of trying new meds.
