Ok, I am going away for Yom Kippur..

I have not ever gone away for Yom Kippur, as I do not fast well. Typically I prepare things that my kids can help themselves too so that I do not go to batty. Now this time my mother will be with me, and medically she cannot fast so I have to somehow tell my host family that not only will my kids be eating but she will be too..

What can I do to make it not so difficult on the host family??

I don't know how far you are travelling, but if possible bring foods for the children/your mom, and remind the children to be extra well behaved (no being wild, no being loud, no fighting, etc.) bc all the mommies and tatties are fasting and are very tired.

I fast better when I'm occupied so if it were me, I'd be glad for the distraction. (ie. children)

Make sure your hostess knows you have non fasters ahead of time, so they can leave a light on in the kitchen (and NOT on in the fridge).

We have had non fasting kids as guests before, and made sure they knew where cereal & milk, juice, honey cake, bagels, etc., were. If she has her own little kids, it's not a problem, but if she's like me and doesn't, she won't be thinking like that, and may not be expecting it or prepared for it.

You can't heat anything up because it's like Shabbos, but make sure you know what your mom can and will have, and that you either bring it or that your hostess can provide it.
