I have a homemade baby blanket that is either knitted or crocheted (not sure which one, I can't tell the difference ), and I'm wondering how to wash it. Any ideas? Do you think I can wash it in cold water on the delicate cycle in the machine, or do I have to hand wash it? Thanks so much!!

Would be Ok in delicate/hand wash in a front loading. I wouldn't put it in a top loading, I would be concerned that it would stretch out or get snagged.

whether it's knitted or crocheted doesn't matter. I would handwash if it had great sentimental value or appeared very delicate. Otherwise, machine wash cold on delicate setting inside a net bag or a pillowcase. Safety pin the pillowcase shut.

my aunt used to knit us stuff that was indistructable; I could soak it in bleach and stuff came out perfect!

Thank you ladies!! I think what I am concluding from this is that I should probably not be lazy and just hand wash it... (in case you can't tell I do NOT like hand washing stuff ). It would definitely be a shame to ruin the blanket...
(Chen, I like your idea of the net bag!)

You can wash the baby blanket if you use a light detergent like Dreft and put the blanket in the machine in a net bag as chen said. if it's small you can use a garment bag or if it's big you can get a net laundry bag. Also, make sure to dry it flat so that it doesn't stretch out and lose its shape. Oh yeah, and put it on the delicate cycle.
While some baby blankets are indestructible, most are not and you have to be very delicate. I would NEVER use bleach on a crocheted or knitted blanket as it will weaken the fibers of the yarn and create holes.
