Tehilla, what else do you put in your black-eyed pea salad besides avocado and red onion?

hi sarahd...here's the recipe:

black-eyed peas
avocado
red onion
fresh chopped garlic
baby corn
grape tomatos sliced
salt, pepper, dill, lemon juice, olive oil

it tastes nice, and refrigerates well for the next day. I'm sure you could experiment more. this salad came into existence on one of those, "Oh no, what can I make!?!" weeks and then my family loved it.

oh and I put the baby corn in for the crunch. you could probably put in peppers, or something else and have the same effect.

Sounds good. I hope to get to the specialty shop that sells black-eyed peas next week, and then I can make it for next Shabbos.

Yes, but I reduced the coffee part significantly. (1 heaping tablespoon in the cake instead of 1/4 cup and 1 tsp. in the glaze.) Also used white whole wheat flour and 1.5 cups raw sugar. My crunchy cake.

Seriously, Shnitzel, I hope you just haven't logged on and aren't refusing to give out you Snickerdoodle Pudding Cake recipe! It sounds so intriguing that I Googled around for it, but all the recipes I found either call for butter or have some other issue...PLEASE SHARE!!

Sure supermomy

Spinach Dip
approximately...
1 lb. frozen spinach, partially defrosted
1/2 cup mayo
2 cloves garlic
salt to taste

Process spinach, mayo and garlic in food processor. Season dip with salt to taste.

Tomato Dip
2 very ripe tomatoes, cut into chunks
2 small cloves garlic
1/2 jalepeno pepper, cut into pieces
drizzle of olive oil
salt to taste

Blend tomatoes, garlic, jalepeno pepper, and olive oil in blender until smooth. Season with salt to taste. Blend a bit more.

Radish Salad
small red radishes
red onion
olive oil
salt

Slice radishes into very thin slices. Add a few very small and very thin strips of red onion. Drizzle with olive oil. Season with salt to taste. (Enough salt for it to be very tasty.)

The sweet potato borekas recipe is from notme
puff pastry squares
boiled sweet potatoes
chopped sauteed onions
salt to taste
egg, beaten
sesame seeds

I used the cooked sweet potato from the chicken soup and mashed it very well. Added lots of sauteed onions and salt to taste. Placed a small spoonful of the mashed sweet potatoes on each small puff pastry square, folded it in half like a triagle, then closed each one with the tines of a fork. Brushed with beaten egg and sprinkled with sesame seeds. Baked uncovered on a cookie sheet for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. They were yum!!

Lentil Barley Chulent
1 cup lentils
1 cup chulent beans (I like using half red kidney beans and half white navy beans)
1/2 cup barley
1 onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
3 carrots, cut into chunks
2 Tbsp Kosher salt (use less if using regular salt)
7 cups water
3 potatoes (optional)
boneless chuck meat (optional)

Heat soak the beans. Rinse and drain. (Place beans in very large pot. Cover beans with water. Bring to a boil, covered. Turn off heat. Leave covered one hour. Rinse and drain.)
Combine all ingredients together. Put into crockpot on LOW setting for 24 hours. (Don't overcook it.)
(I like this even better without meat and potatoes. It comes out so light and tastey.)

ok so I am trying to make an Indian food themed shabbos. But its appearing to be a little difficult, so its going to be more of a "tex mex" style Indian!!
just friday night, out shabbos day.

challah
salmon (anyone know how to turn this into an indian dish?)
Indian style chick pea salad
olive oil garlic dip

chicken soup w/ matza balls, had to add it in there! I need something traditional

curry chicken
Indian spiced cous cous
vegetable kabobs

something cocconutty for dessert and probably peanut butter chocolate cookies

night:

g.fish
Moroccan fish
chumus
babaganoosh
olive dip
nish nosh salad
sesame noodles
chicken soup w/ matzah balls
sweet and sour meatballs w/rice
chicken w/ spice d'provance and wine
scalloped potatoes
"oreo" pie

day:

same first course plus taco salad
chamin
cold cut subs
carrot muffins
"oreo" pie
brownies or cake

In my quest for organization, I typed this up in word and called it "menu 1". I also typed up a matching shopping list. Then, next time I make this menu, all have to do is print out the list.
