Very telling how this thread exploded. Let me just say this. Unlike other chassidusen who are more homogeneous, Satmar is like autism in that if you met one Satmar person you’ve met one Satmar person.
It’s a huge spectrum. It encompasses every type you can think of. Satmar people generally don’t bring the rebbe or chassidus into every life decision, it’s more of a culture and tribe than anything else. Which means there is a very big variety.
So when you ask a question, keep that in mind, unless you insist on being narrow-minded that is
this was such an interesting post. The Samar people I know are the least into the Rebbe or chassidus than other chassidim I am familiar with.

Were b9bov and do the same.
Back in Europe all chasidim held this way.
After the war, the litvish rabbanim called all rabbinim in the US for a conference to establish certain across the board norms.
They felt that post war with all the confusion and trauma people wouldn't know what their families derech was and all rabbanim (chassidim and litvak)agreed to keep an 18 minute shkia.
But any family who has a mesorah, it's 100% normal.

OP, I live Williamsburg-adjacent (I am a rogue Lubavitcher). I really would love a place for wash and sets in Williamsburg. Any recommendations? I am looking for good work, not too expensive, and someone who wouldn't find it weird that a non-Satmar lady is seeking them out...

Do you have any recommendations?

My major exposure to Satmar is the amazing work of the ladies who brought food to my relative in a NY hospital. Other than that, I don't know know enough to "ask you anything".
Would you mind explaining some of the ways your life is different than other chasidusin or other Orthodox? I'm genuinely curious.

Ooh yes!! I had to travel from Central America to London UK with my child for medical tratment. I'm as Litvish as can be, there are no Chasidim in the city I live in, yet when someone gave me the no of Satmar Bikur Cholim in Stamford, I called and was blown away! Two woman traveled over an hour each way to deliver a meal. I felt bad, and told them to skip the next day, said I'd manage with cereal, granola bars and fruit from the hospital shop, the said 'you might manage with but your son needs good food, especially now!' (It was in the city, far from the Jewish community, and as it was a private hospital, specialising in 2 particular conditions, they weren't used to frum Jews so we were stuck food-wise).

On Thurs night, a nurse said there were 2 young men here to see me, and can she send them up. I was puzzled, as I had no family or friends in London, but a minute later, 2 Chasiddishe men knocked on, dropped off 3 full Shabbos meals and reading material, and with a gut Shabbos and refuah sh'leima, they left.

The nurse asked me why I didn't invite them in. I explained that I don't know them, they are volunteers from an organisation that helps people going thru medical stuff with with food and what-not. (I didn't bother explaining that we don't socialise with the opposite gender when she wondered why the 'lady volunteers' stayed to chat, if after all, I didn't know them either! Until then the nurses thought they were friends of mine! Which they became!)
The nurse said 'Are you saying that strangers make a 2 hour round trip to deliver meals to someone they don't know....!!!!! She couldn't get her head round it.

Thanks for asking. He's doing well today. He still has bits and pieces going on, but is in every way like a regular child BH! I'll never forget those years of constant crisis and traveling, made sweeter by the chasodim big and small, from those who we knew, and those who didn't.

I am an interior designer, and worked with some satmer families. One thing I find fascinating is that even after they get married they are so connected to their sisters and mother. They stick together go shopping together, get together on shabbos etc. Any decisions on tiles, counters etc needed to be discussed with her sisters. The experience I had was that they are very codependent. (To a certain extent I was envious! But it was a little extreme)
Do you find that you and your sisters are so codependent? Is that the norm?

lol no.
The mainstream chassidusin are just as much into their Rebbe’s.
I find Chabad people don’t know much about what other Chassidusin are like.

Satmar started out as a kehilla. Reb Yoel was the rav in Satmar. He only became a rebbe after the war.
