No. I really want to win this year. I've been going through a few years of horrible issues and pain and lost a lot of money dealing with it all. Am in debt. Itd be so nice to win. So nice. Id be so surprised. I doubt I'll win. But who knows. Itd be nice.

We’ve been having big parnassah issues lately. I had $100 left in my account and I used $5 of those dollars and put in to one prize. The prize of $1000 a week for a year. Gosh would that help me. Hashem, this is part of my hishtadlus. If it’s right for us, please make us win!

Shoots, how do I change my vote? I won the sweater back in 2021. I just went in before and I'd love to win a vacation! I missed the bonus prize while choosing but it's crazy that someone won it last year.

My family won the ticket in every prize when I was a kid, we didn't in anything though Smile For a couple years after that, they would call and thank us for our generous donation Wink
My uncle won the sefer torah a couple years ago!

Not Oorah, but a close family member won a nice cash one from Bonei Olam.
Oh and my brother once won a car from a random sweepstakes years ago we thought it was a scam but it was legit. He had to sell the car to pay the taxes but he came out with some money.

Not in Oorah, but God loves giving me stuff through raffles and Chinese auctions. I feel like it's our little secret language of hugs and kisses.

I've won: membership and a huge gift card to Costco, 1000$ worth of Lego and Playmobil, a sweatshirt, a massive meatboard for Shabbos (500$), a spray paint party for 50, and my most expensive win, a 5k custom wig.

I don’t understand the cash prizes or exchanging the prize for cash. I always thought the organizations need money and the prizes are donated items-meaning they are not costing the organization anything or taking any money away from the organization. When you win a silver menorah, or airline tickets, or shaital, the owner of the prize has donated the item, but wouldn’t cash take away from the organization which we are giving tezedaka to?

Help me understand

Not Oorah but I just won a wig from my daughter's school. That's the only place I ever won from. Won three things over last couple years. Wig was amazing since I am making a bar mitzvah in two weeks and was planning on buying anyways and this was handed to me bh!

Oorah employee here. The prizes are all sponsored by donors. The focus of the auction is fundraising, but also to raise awareness and attract people to become Torahmates.

Even if the prizes are donated, they are still tzedaka. As in the people donating prizes could give the money to tzedaka but instead are spending it on prizes. I just don't get tzedaka spending so much on prizes. I don't enter raffles like this, I would feel weird taking money from a tzedaka if I won and I think it puts pressure on other tzedaka to offer ridiculous prizes for people giving tzedaka. Either, I'm playing the lottery or I'm giving tzedaka. I don't get moving the two.
Would be happy to hear how I am wrong?
