Mrs. Leo, if it's the Russian/Lubab choir I'm thinking of - they're really good. Is it the one who sing Oyfen Pripichek?

Yes it is, the singing. But they added a lot of secular songs. My mother is gonna wait it out a little though cuz the head of the choir wrote a personalized song just for my 7 year old brother so she cant just pull him out before the gets to perform it at the next concert which is Chanukah.
I have a video of their latest concert, lemme see if I can post it.

My sister pulled my nephew out of Miami boys. She had him join to gain self-confidence, but then it started going to his head Sad . There's probably a different dynamic depending on the group of boys. Talk to current Miami boys mothers when it comes time.

yeah that's what happens usually.

my ds who is 9, when he sings zemiros thinks he has teh greatest voice out..... my sils are like oh he could be a singer one day.... well I once considered him joining shira chadasha but decided against it, it's bad enough tahthe thinks so highly of himself infrount of ds2, I don't need extras. besides teh travelling would have been a problem.

one of my brother's actually hasa very good voice, he's composed hundreds of songs, he wanted to put out a cd but didn't have money for it and doesn't have time to sing at chausnas so he uses uit to teach tropp and lein on shabbos morning.

My mother is actually worried that they would be picked on in MBC or YBC.

It's probably great for the self confidence but there's a danger of a kid
a. getting too big for his britches and
b. getting sucked into the music world which maaaaay hurt the learning.

I was the amother who posted in the beginning. my brother is in MBC and yes, he was picked on. for a variety of reasons he switched yeshivos, and the fact that he is in the choir is kept a secret.

I meant that they may be picked on IN the choir by the other boys in the choir.

My brother was in Miami Boys Choir - and Shalsheles Junior (for the bukees that narrows it down to two choices- that's the reason for amother embarrassed )
He went to school normally and just had some practices on sundays and weekend nights when closer to concerts. He had plenty of tme to study- though I would say you have to know your kid and if he can put up with the extra pressure.
Altogether it was a great experience for him- though yes, issues can evolve from being the object of girl worship. BH he left before this became a real issue and he is doing great now, but I can see where a parent will worry. You have to know your kid- it can be great for a self confidence boost and a extra curriculur activity for the right child.

Yossi had the potential to become the next girl hearthrob; he was the star of the choir and had an amazing poise. Good thing it didnt happen!
