I was just wondering what life was like. Do they go to school? Are they home a lot of away a lot? Just a random question I was pondering.

No, and no need for the weird emoticon. I was just wondering. Dh and I were talking that if IY"H ds gets my voice, he could be in some choir, but I didn't know what the deal was. I always see concerts advertised or cds.

However, if ds gets dh's voice, there will be no choir issues.

Plus, regarding school, I thought depends on the schedule, they're home schooled, or they have a school together - I didn't know.

I mean if he has rehearsals at night and on Sundays, when does he do homework, sleep, eat, etc?

My friends DH was one years ago - he was pretty messed up from it for years , thinking he was G-ds gift and all that, his brother says he was impossible to live with cause his ego was sooo BIG there was no room for anyone else in the house! Also, as he got a bit older, girls were, well, not throwing bras and hotel room keys at him, but pretty close!! Back then the boys had to pay for their own costumes/uniforms and stuff. I had thought of bringing DS to tryouts, but these friends talked me out of it.

their not movie stars, just little boys who sing for free...in their free time.

The boys in the YBC or MBC go to their own regular schools and travel to the rehearsal sites on Sunday afternoons. They dont go to school together. They range from chasidish to very modern Ortho and are from all over NY, NJ, the Five Towns, Monsey, Long Island, etc.

My nephews were in Shira Chadasha here in Israel. They had practice once a week, but sometimes more often especially when they had to do recordings in the studio. It definitely interfered sometimes. My nephew missed being in this movie clip because he had to study for a test that day! (So, his voice is in it coming out of someone else's mouth, but he's not in the studio scene)
They also traveled around Israel alot doing concerts. THey sang with Shwekey and others and had a grand old time.

YBC has moved to NY, since Yossi Newman now lives in NJ I believe.

We looked into it a few years ago. The cost was $500 a year to be a member of MBC. That meant you received all the sheet music, and were allowed to join practices and participate in concerts. The boys (or rather their parents) had to pay their own travel expenses, choir costumes, etc.

You had to send Yerachmiel a singing sample to try out. You could live anywhere in the world and be a member. We didn't have our son try out - we figured there would be no performances in our area soon. And other reasons, like the cost.

I think the "frum stardom" can go to the boys' heads and their parents' heads. They may be just little boys singing, but in some circumstances they become the equivalent of stars in our small frum world.

There is so much you can do with your son, why the need for a professional choir…

Take him to the home on Shabbos afternoon, and watch the people’s face light up. We have one fellow who waits for us from his window and his eyes follow us from the corner of the street until we come through the door. Those eyes speak volumes. It says, “I am important, therefore they come”.

My nephew was in the YBC and they'd actually have their practices in my bil's basement..... but a couple years ago, YBC (and Newman) moved to NY.

Oh well, my nephew enjoyed being in it and has wonderful memories from it.

one of th ex mbc stars lived in beitar up untill pesach. he was part of the american yeshicva there. he and his wife and son have since moved back.

actually very sweet wife.

I was at one poit thinkingof putting one of my boys in shira chadasha but I'm not sure. ds1 I'm not sure if he has a great voice but has difficulty working with other's and may bet upset that he isn't solod.

ds2 is too young, though he m,ay need to travel from beitar to har nof, quite frankly I prefer him to do some kinda chug that he could maybe use later in parnassa or something useful, so he's in woodwork instead.

My 7 and 8 year old brothers are in a small Russian lubavich choir and my mother wants to take them out because its not very frum and the other boys are public school kids.
My parents are looking to get my brothers into MBC or YBC.
Does anyone have any information on how to get in?
Thanks!

My sister pulled my nephew out of Miami boys. She had him join to gain self-confidence, but then it started going to his head Sad . There's probably a different dynamic depending on the group of boys. Talk to current Miami boys mothers when it comes time.

Mrs. Leo, if it's the Russian/Lubab choir I'm thinking of - they're really good. Is it the one who sing Oyfen Pripichek?
