Due to Parnassa reasons were really considering moving to Monsey from the UK. What can you tell me about Monsey? I have only been to New York before [and hated it!}.

Well Monsey is in New York, but I'm assuming you mean the city? Monsey is a very large place. There are many different neighborhoods and all different "types" here.

You need schools to get into first. Then you can find a house

It's absolutely not a given that the mosdos you belong to will accept your kids. Please make sure that your kids are accepted to schools before you move.
Monsey is very different than the city. You need a car to get around & if you don't drive, you'd need to rely on taxi.
Some areas are very congested with no grass or space for kids to play. While other areas are more spread out with more play space. Some areas in Airmont/Chestnut Ridge/Pomona, the houses are very spread out and you may not have many neighbors. New City is a beautiful area & many chassidish are moving out there.
Before you finalize on a house, make sure that the school will provide transportation to that area, or that transportation to that area doesn't cost a fortune.
