I'm wondering if it's effective for advertising or makes people hate the brand for being annoying.
Do you hate getting them? Do you sign up on purpose to hear what's out there?
*edit I'm not referring to a company you signed up for. I mean a "blast" email address that promotes all kinds of paid ads, unsolicited.

It has to be done well. Only email customers when you have something useful and important to share. New season of clothes dropped? Great let us know. Huge sale? Amazing, tell us. But to constantly send emails just reminding us of your existence - I’m going to unsubscribe.

To clarify, I mean those lists who just send out tons of emails of ads of other companies. Like they call themselves a "blast" or something similar and their whole business model is cold emailing people who may not have necessarily signed up for it...

I loathe unsolicited email. I report them all as spam.

I find it extremely annoying and immediately delete and Unsubscribe
I don't need my inbox getting spammed and then potentially missing an important email mixed in with all the ads.
It's in extremely poor taste and not ok.
If I wanted your ads I would sign up for them

Oh of course that’s spam. That’s the literal definition of spam. I never spent a dollar on a spam ad.

I generally give a separate email address that I never check to places that require email address, but I don’t particularly want to get anything from them. Same for shopping. Cuts down on my spam so much.
Any company that sends unsolicited emails or unsolicited robo calls is a company I will specifically AVOID using. Many people feel this way.

I work for an organization that does this. Do you honestly think big brands, companies, or organizations just do things without research? We can see how many donations, sign ups, spam reports, etc. All the numbers.
I'm sure lots of people hate it but at the end of the day it's a successful model for the organization.
Personally I hate it and would never donate but apparently plenty of people do.

You can see if someone clicked on your email?
Can you see if the person was already signed up for emails?
For example, there's a tzedaka organization I get emails from. I end up on your list and now get an email through you for that organization and give a donation. That shows on your stats? If yes, that's skewed because I would give to that organization through their own email.

What’s the point of this thread? Did you really think anyone would say they like them?

It depends how it's done, I actually find it useful sometimes, even though I think of it as spam.
So, I voted spam - because that's what it is, but it's somewhat, sometimes useful spam
Unlike this:
"Hello beloved, my name is Mary from Scotland and I wish to give the sum of USD 150,030,000 because I trust you and I don't have any children. All I need from you is a copy of your social security card, address, and banking account details."

I always wonder how these people get to my email address!
I can unsubscribe and still get more of these.
How do they get our emails? There’s a list you can buy off? How does it work?

I once dealt with this type of service.
You don’t buy the list at all. You use their Service to send out your info in a blast. You never actually get to keep or see the email addresses you're emailing.

Well is it worth the dollars at the expense of goodwill?
And yes I think big companies doesn't necessarily mean they have good marketing.

The goal is the dollars. How is it even a question?
I definitely avoid a couple of businesses that belong to a guy who calls, CALLS! a few times a day to announce their existence. Do I seem annoyed? That’s because I am.
But I agree that the reason these emails and calls haven’t stopped is because it must be good for the bottom line somehow.

Ads I never signed up for are annoying. But brands I signed up for I like to stay in the know of updates..
Also a brand owner once told me that people sign up for the sign up discount e.c.t. and than report the emails spam which really hurts the backend email system of the company rather people should just unsubscribe if no longer interested.
So gotta be carefull escpecially with jewish brands.
Also, many people join free giveaways on ig e.c.t. and sign up to participating brands emails so be careful not to report them spam after...

As someone in the marketing field, love it or hate it...it works!!!
You can add fun element to the ads to make it an interesting read and that drives ppl to like the brand even when they unsubscribe

So I’m one of the 2 that don’t mind. I really don’t. If they get annoying I unsubscribe. The only issue I have is with these random tzedaka cases that send from a different email address each time, and there’s no way to unsubscribe. And I obviously never signed up for that.

I am totally with you and also work for a non-profit organization that does them. However they only send to someone who has signed for one of their regular (and useful) bulletins. I find them mostly annoying but when I'd unsubscribed for a while I missed some useful things so I signed up again.
