Where are you located? Is there a need that you can fill in a lucrative way? Do you have any special talents that you can use to make money?

Don’t. I opened one two and a half years ago. I don’t have menuchas hanefesh for a second. It looks like I’m headed to closing.

Maybe say which business you opened so that she can try something else?

As an entrepreneur, I have a few things to say:

1. It's a long and hard road with so many ups and downs, so many unexpected things pop up all the time- again and again.

2. There's a ton of personal growth needed to be successful. It takes a very large amount of grit and resilience to keep doing it and showing up when nothing seems to go right.

3. It takes more time and money, a lot more.

4. You need to pick something you're very passionate about as on those really hard days, you need a powerful 'why' and something strong to pull you through.

5. Having a well thought out business plan is critical- you don't need everything but needs deep thought. But action is critical and perfectionism is the enemy of productivity.

6. Learn and inhale everything in your industry and business in general, there's a ton of free stuff out there. Books - libraries have so many- print, pdf, audio, podcasts, YouTube, LinkedIn.

7. Mindset is everything, if you think you can and you think you can't: you're right.

8. Get support in the form of both a coach or mentor and peer support. Your family, friends and neighbors won't understand what you're doing and will try to protect you and can make you question yourself again and again. Even with the support, there can be many lonely moments.

Entrepreneurship is very rewarding and powerful, but it comes with all these parts which makes the reward so much more impactful.

Most businesses fail, look up the statistics. Don't take failure in business personally and you'll be fins. Most successful entrepreneurs failed multiple times before the one that made them successful.

There's no such a thing as overnight success-no one sees the days, months and years of constant work and work that goes into it.

Look at any successful athlete- years and years of committed practice and a coach got them there.

I'm not going to name my industry, suffice it to say I've experienced more failures than wins, but I would never trade this journey in, the self growth itself is empowering.

What works or doesn't work for one person doesn't mean anything for another person.
We're each wired differently, have different passions, life circumstances and target market.

I think you are looking at this idea backward. Usually if someone has an idea they open a business.
You have to want to work really hard. Its not this magic thing to make money.

The time, money, effort and agmas nefesh is not worth it. It’s only worth it if it takes off, which in most cases it doesn’t. You need elephant skin and more. It’s a dirty and cruel world out there. Competitions will do everything to make sure you aren’t a threat to them and will do what it takes including things that are 💯 against Torah values. You really see the ugly side of the frum community and the dark side of the world. I cannot describe the sleepless nights I have, stress I breathe 24/7 and emotional toll this takes. It literally took over my life. I have no joy. I don’t have patience for my kids, I’m constantly on the phone trying to see how I can salvage. The enthusiasm dies down after you fail and fail and fail. It’s very hard to keep on going. For a man it’s different because they are less emotional and less needed at home but if any woman would ask me I’d say run the other direction.

Op I own a successful business that requires a specific talent I have, and im currently working on opening another one with my husband.

It took approximately 4-5 years for my current business to be successful.

In the meantime, my husband was working full+ time and it wasn't sustainable, so we tried opening 2 other things together, which failed. We didn't invest a ton of money, but enough to have a significant loss on both of them.

We're onto the 3rd thing now, and we invested a significant amount of time, energy and money, and so far it looks promising. We're working on it for around a half year and haven't made a dollar yet, and probably won't make any money before another year or 2, but after that the profits will hopefully be good.

If you have enough drive to push through, then it might be the right thing. But if you're not the type to persevere, it's probably not the best idea to start. It can be emotionally and financially draining, and you need a real strong support system.
