I’m terrified of giving vaccines.

I gave to my older ones very hesitantly but with the younger ones, I’m having a lot of anxiety around it.

I gave My daughter the prevnar vaccine as her first one at age 1. She ended up having 8 consecutive ear infections immediately after…. The school is putting alot of pressure so I have to continue. I gave her another one a few months ago and now going to continue every few months.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to space it out? On the importance of vaccinations? I don’t want to feel like I’m doing damage or that I’m forced to vaccinate against my will. I don’t think it’s possible in the state of NY to not vaccinate at all nor am I sure if that’s the right thing to do…

I’m not anti vax. I’m just really anxious about it. All advice and information is welcome. Please be kind. If you’re against anti vaxers- please don’t leave your frustrations onto me. I’m trying to do the right thing and follow pediatricians recommendations but I want to make informed decisions.

You should be scared.

I'm scared to give vaccinations and I'm scared to let my kids play around the Menorah when it's lit. Both two healthy fears.

She is not one now. She is in preschool

Trust your intuition. I personally am also in New York and I plan to do as little and as late as I possibly can. But the end of the day. In ny unfortunately there’s no way to not vaccinate. Which is a whole other parsha that makes me so upset

There are ways around it in NY state. I live here.
You should be scared. And "anti- vax" isn't a bad word, its ok to be skeptical and to research it more.

I’ll be straight with you. If you want to make an informed decision, you’re going to have to go find the information yourself.
The anti vaxxers on here are going to be posting about how you’re so right to be anxious and it’s horrible for your child and can mess them up forever.
The pro vaxxers are going to post about how you must give them it’s very important how dare you think of skipping some.
And then a lot of us are in the middle…

I think doing research on each vaccine individually, what are the risks of that disease, how common is it now, how common was it before the vaccine started being given, the mortality rights for that disease at different ages. Then the ingredients in the vaccine, is it a live vaccine or not, how many vaccines do you feel comfortable with at a time etc.

Just so you know my bias, I do give vaccines, a bit spaced out just so my babies aren’t being jabbed with tons of things at one time.

I’m very into doing your own research, even if you hear something from a seemingly credible source. I don’t want to out myself because I’ve told this story to many people in real life but I heard on this podcast about healthy kids and anti vax about a certain ingredient in a certain vaccine and I went crazy about how I was going to pull my kids out of school because there was no way I’m giving them this vaccine with this ingredient. After a few days when I decided to look more into it I found out that some version of this vaccine have that ingredient but most actually do not and I checked which brands don’t have it, checked with out pediatrician and they had a brand that didn’t have the ingredient and shalom al Yisroel.

Just bringing this up so you can realize the importance of making an informed decision for yourself and not what others are saying.

What is the benefit to pushing it off? Is it better to vaccinate when the child is older? Or it's just better to space it out?

This is my personal opinion so please don’t take it as medical advice. For me I feel like babies have such tiny little bodies that are still adjusting to so much in this world germs etc
When putting 3-5 different vaccines in them at once it can be overwhelming to such a small immune system to have to respond to all of that at once

Both. Older = stronger system to handle the toxins. Spread out means having a chance to detox a bit between and not pile so much in at once.

And a third point: developmental tasks are heavily concentrated in the first years. Once they've completely mastered skills, they're less likely to lose them.

ETA: and less shots are required overall if you wait till after one year. A lot of them don't count because the baby is too young.

Some people feel that when the child is older he will have a more robust response, and that that is less safe than the weaker immune response a younger baby will have.
Take that as you will.

My son was hospitalized at 8 weeks with pertusis. The p in dpt. It was a nightmare. Capital N. He kept on stopping to breath. After 6 weeks, they sent him home in often. He still stopped breathing when trying to cough out the phlegm. But at least his brain wasn't affected because if the oxygen he was on. I give my kids vaccines. But never if they aren't feeling well. And one at a time. I've seen what happens if not. ( He was too young for the shot. They give it at 8 weeks I had an appointment for the next week). It was the scariest thing watching your child struggling to breathe.

Some doctors let you space out the vaccines. My current doctor does and I decided to delay one that wasn't urgent. I dont give any that aren't required. But most of them are.

please note, pertusis is not dangerous for a 4 year old, so if a child has a life altering negative reaction to the shot or a family history- once they make it past the first year it is no longer life threatening.
parents of children in this category should make an informed decision on a case by case basis- hopefully with a dr/specialist who is on board.

Did you BF your baby?

(Adults need to take one every 10 years. But might lose some immunity with pregnancy for some vaccines. So need to recheck pp if you delat vaccines and choose to BF as protection)

I check to make sure I'm immune with every pregnancy/pp. And I BF my baby exclusively until they eat solids then I still bf round the clock anyway.

They get decent immunity from my breat milk, not as good as actual vaccines but with the immune boosting properties of my breast milk overall. And my antibodies, and my older kids being up to date with their vaccines... I feel like I'm doing sufficient hishtadlus.
With one of my babies, I needed a dtap booster early. I went at 2 weeks pp. My psoriatic arthritis flared like never before! I couldn't hold a knife and my knees were so bad I couldn't stand up unless I braced myself and I couldn't do that with the baby.
It took a few WEEKS of detox and diet change for it to go away. I'm an adult. Can you imagine what that can do to a baby.

As "evil" as it is, it still is a necessary "evil" bh for vaccines. Bh for abx. Bh that our children are expected to survive every winter and grow up into adulthood. We got to take advantage of these great tools and keep our bodies healthy.

Listen. My niece had post viral encephalitis, which caused a stroke just under 1 years old for a vaccine preventable disease that wasn't recommended to be vaccinated for under 1 year. Otherwise, this baby was on a religious vaccination schedule.
If something is bashert, it is bashert.
(BTW she's doing really well now bh!)

Always rememeber whos in charge. Daven. Do your best with what you have. And then you daven daven and daven some more.
