I sometimes read reviews of books and the women will write - the guy was so hot... then I know its probably not for me. They're obviously imagining themselves with the guy. |
Hmm. Could be. I’ve read The Queen of Jerusalem and the like, In all the Broken places, etc.
So I’m not sure what truly qualifies but those were quite detailed.

Okay. So I agree we shouldn’t engage in any forbidden s-xual acts.
But I can’t see why reading about them would be part of it. You’re not engaging in Anything. Not that it’s at all admirable or whatnot to read these, but I don’t see the qualifications for the three serious sins.
Because if reading about them was a problem, there’s a hefty dose of this type of reading in the Torah too.

In my opinion, not the same, but not good either. Erotica is made by one person (usually a woman) and distributed thru more discrete and appropriate channels. P-rn involves at least two people, and possibly trafficked or drugged women or even girls. P-rn also has real life physical and emotional consequences for the "actors," while erotica does not. And of course there is the key difference that p-rn is the real act while written material is just that. In my opinion, though, both are implicated in the degradation of human s-xuality as they normalize violent and degrading relations acts (from what I've heard on social media, a lot of the popular books are very dark) or at the very least erase the beauty and nuance of intimacy and give their audience unrealistic expectations.

The Torah isn't a story book, and is intentionally vague and "clean".
