Anyone with toddler that had dislocated hip?

I noticed her legs weren't even. She was walking funny, and later than all my others... Took her for x-rays, hip is dislocated completely out of socket...Are there any solutions besides surgery?

Or you think it happened later?
I'm not familiar with dislocated hip at that age!

My niece was a few months old, had casts on both legs for many months.
My dd had a brace as a newborn for a few weeks.

(Just want to mention that while my niece had her cast on, they met an older lady who was limping and she told them "you're lucky it was discovered, my parents didn't know about hip dislocation and now I was limping my whole life!" )

Interesting how my mother always had a limp. Later on had hip replacement. She must have had same thing. (They asked me if it's in family)

Is this the same as hip dysplasia?
If it is, I've heard that craniosacral therapy can be really helpful for that.

Yes, that's what she has!

Can it help for this age? How can I find out more?

Sorry I may have been mistaken, the cst I read it from said it help her with pain from hip dysplasia, not the actual dysplasia itself.
But can't hurt to reach out to her and ask, though I doubt it can replace surgery

My kid (age four at the time) complained about back pain, so off we went to the doctor. Turns out the legs were uneven,
and a chiropractor did a gentle movement which did the trick.

They discovered hip dysplasia in my child at 18 months also, total fluke that it was caught. There were no outward signs that he had this. He wears a brace now when hes asleep which hopefully will fix it enough to minimize the need for surgery when he's older. I daven that this should be enough.

My child had multiple braces over her 8 months. Nothing worked. Then surgery at 8 months. Then a cast for 6 weeks. Then again, they had to put her under, reset the positive, and another 6 weeks (that was the original plan)
We went for xrays and checkup every year until 5. It wasnt as developed as they had expected. We did an mri and bone age came back to 3 years. So she was right on target bh. She's 9 now we need to go recheck again. Hopefully all will be good.
Surgery at that age isn't too bad. The aftercare if baby needs a cast is a messy thing. But nothing that will leave lasting effects or painful.

It's possible yours is mild if you didn't see any outward signs. Mine walks with a real limp, with one leg bent.

They didn't catch it at routine checkups when they rotated the hips/legs? What are they looking for at those well visits?

Was she breech during delivery or for an extended time during pregnancy? I had a hip ultrasound done for two of my kids as very young infants only because one was born breech and the other was in a breech position for most of the pregnancy. BH neither of my kids had it

This is why it's important to do the hip ultrasound as a baby, they don't always catch it by just checking because it can be very slight. In Israel where I am they usually do ultrasound until 6 months and then an x-ray after so try to do it as soon as possible.

Pretty sure the other poster means a hip ultrasound as a newborn before the child shows symptoms. However without a reason like baby was breech, I wonder if the Dr would order it.

Unfortunately not. But more and more people are doing it even without a specific reason. It's really easy to get a referral for it. I did it cuz my kids are breech. I do work in the field and have seen women who have had hip replacements really young because it was never diagnosed and pregnancy and childbirth exacerbated it.

I had twins recently, both breech at birth. No one said anything at the hospital about a hip issue but when I read the discharge paperwork it said they need hip ultrasound. The pediatrician didn't notice anything either during the exam but I requested the referral for the scan. Sure enough one twin has a mild dysplasia. We didn't have the appointment yet with the orthopedics but I'm assuming he will need thr harness. I was upset but also glad we caught it early when treatment is alot easier and more effective.
