Our four year old got accepted and starting a new school (special education from mainstream school) the following week. We’ve been preparing her and she is excited to start; my question is more from her current school standpoint. Should we have them do a little goodbye party, or is not really necessary at this age? Does she need closure or can we move forward fanfare?

I think its nice to have a little party. Good for her but also for the kids in her current class to have closure too.
I would ask morah if you could do it.
I can only imagine it helping, not hurting.
Send in a little treat like candy bracelets or a lollipops (let your dd choose), and the morah can have a goodbye party in school.

Unless your daughter has strong social bonds unusual for a 4-year-old, it's unnecessary at this age.
It feels almost like you need some closure over this hard choice to send your kid to a special ed school. And having a lot of mixed feelings is normal. Can you do something nice for yourself? Go out to lunch with a friend or take a long walk in the park?
