I teach high school and really do not get tips like elementary school teachers. It’s not a thing here (if it would be, that would be one expensive trend! The students have like twenty teachers!)
However, I was pleasantly surprised to find two thank you gift cards in my inbox this Chanuka. So now what? Can I tell my two students thank you and pass it on to their parents? Do I write yet another thank you card (minus the money Wink ) ? Should I call the parents?

My kids are in elementary schools where everyone contributes to a group gift, so usually the teacher adds a thank you to the newsletter the following week.

that's so nice! I think it's totally okay to write them a thank you note (maybe mail it so you aren't giving it to the students in front of the others). or if you're close with the parents, to call/text. I'm a high school teacher and the school did give amex gift cards (I don't think collected from students), but not a thing from any students (and I teach about 90 of them!). even not from students I privately tutor....

(btw last year I gave a gift card to one of my daughter's HS teachers who meant a lot to her. If I recall, she called to thank me? I'm not sure. or she texted, as I had texted her about something unrelated)

Call them and say thank you and what a pleasure their daughter is takes 2 min and done easier than writing and mailing a letter

Since it's only 2, phonecall.
If it would have been more than 19, then a text is fine
