My doctor recommends this and it is in line with CDC recommendations, but each patients individual risks need to be taken into account. I'm sorry you know 2 people who this happened to and I appreciate you mentioning it so people can be aware.

It's extremely stupid! I know of one case of strep that resulted in necrotizing fascitis, in an otherwise healthy adult man. Strep is serious!

I've never heard of that! Can you provide a link to the CDC info?

My kids kept having positive culture results and so I began taking cultures that we send to the lab.
The lab is able to pick up which strept it is, and only one group needs to be treated ( I forget if a or b) to prevent rheumatic fever.
The lab takes about three days to come back. Sometimes I’ve gotten a positive overnight Petri dish and began to treat because the kid looks sick, only to get a phone call from the doctor “it isn’t strept after all, it’s mrsa in the throat… or …it’s a strept you don’t need to treat”
So if you’re having recurrent strept, doing lab cultures can be helpful.

My dh was in the hospital for a week from sepsis due to undiagnosed strep. He was in the ICU. It took him months to get back to normal. Please treat strep.

that my doc said is only 50% affective. he recommended to give 3 shots within 10 days but we re-cultured and it was negative.
I still worry though.
