I feel like this is not right but maybe there’s more to it that I don’t know.
My son’s yeshiva is doing a fundraiser now and as an incentive for the boys, if they raise $5,000, those boys will go on a yeshiva sponsored trip to Dubai.
This alone makes me raise my eyebrows but of course there are so many other factors.
I pay $24,000 in tuition for my son to learn in Israel for a year. Where is all the money going? And why is it an appropriate incentive to take the boys who do collect that amount of money to Dubai?

It's not ok. Dubai? For raising money for yeshiva? I'm so over the fundraiser culture

I agree with you. Also why Dubai especially what happened to the Chabad rabbi there recently? It doesn’t seem so safe

Definitely not okay, and risky in terms of safety also.

Aside from the safety issue - sounds like a waste of fundraising money if the money is supposed to be used for legit yeshiva expenses.

It sounds like they are flying out of Israel, so it’s not as expensive as flying from the US.

I wonder if this is the same yeshiva that took the boys to the Waldorf in yerushalyim if they met their fundraising goal last year. (Am American yeshiva in Isreal) I think it’s terrible chinuch.

At least that’s going to yerushalayim - what’s the spirituality of Dubai ?!

They're already in the kedusha of Yerushalayim. (The OP said she was paying $24,000 for tuition in Israel.) The Waldorf was just luxury.

Last year, Dubai would have been inadvisable because of the war. This year it's just inadvisable!

I'm so hoping you misunderstood what is actually happening. This sounds so weirdly inappropriate that it's actually hard to believe.

If this was my son I’d want to take him out of yeshiva. I said I’d want, not that I would, because it can be hard to get into a different yeshiva. If my son was settled in this one and learning well I’d hesitate to make him switch but I’d for sure talk to him about this and would discuss with dh.
In Judaism the end doesn’t justify the means. Fundraising is a valid goal but I would want the chinuch of their talmidim to be the yeshiva’s top goal. This is terrible chinuch on too many levels to list. I’m sure everyone else can figure it out on their own.
I would tell ds before he gets involved in the campaign that dh and I don’t allow him to travel to Dubai regardless of how much he raises.

Wow this is so not ok and I hope this wasn’t the yeshiva I just donated to. I’m not interested in financing trips to Dubai

My son is in yeshiva in Israel this year and they have an optional Poland trip. No one had to raise money. If you want to go, you pay. If you don't want to go, stay in yeshiva. (Bh my mom funded most of it so he's going but I couldn't go as a kid)
