Or is it looking good?

I recently lost weight, and have been starting to get bothered when I get complimented that I look “skinny”. ….it shouldn’t be a compliment. Telling someone you look “good” fantastic, pretty etc is!!

Do you agree?

So why do people say it as a compliment?
I guess for some it is a goal?

I am obese, I would love to look regular size. I have never wanted to be skinny even when I wasn't obese.

I actually once got down to my pre marriage weight (I was a size 2) and ended up gaining some weight back purposely because I looked too skinny. I think thin is a better word. I think some people are more into skinny, but I'd rather look healthy.

Not skinny

Fit, slim etc. To me skinny implies bony/skeletal

Would you prefer when someone loses weight and they’re skinnier but their face goes hollow and sunken?or they stayed with more lbs on them and their size isn’t that small, but their face looks pretty?

I wanted to lose weight and look good but not to the point of skinny - where it will take it’s toll on my face and looks etc.l.

Do you not think it’s just the remnants of ‘skinny culture,’ when all the magazines and media were pushing skinny as the ultimate body type? This culture isn’t fully out of society’s psyche yet. So they’re saying it as a compliment, because in their head saying ‘you’re skinny’ is what you want to hear.

Personally, I’ve recently shifted from wanting to lose weight and slim down, to wanting to build a healthy body, for insurance that I can use my body effectively for many years to come.

Do you want to be told you look fantastic? Or that you look skinny and have a tiny waist?

If someone honestly tells you that you look better a few lbs up would you stop dieting?

I never was and never will be skinny. Whether I weigh 110 or 165, my waist to hip ratio doesn't budge from 0.98-0.99 and I have a pot belly and double chin. All that changes is the size, not the shape.

I never yearned to look like Twiggy (look it up) and I couldn't if I wanted to. Not built that way. But in my teens I did want to be slim. Not skinny--I think bones are ugly and should be gently camouflaged with a bit of flesh--but I did want to fit into pretty clothes.

Now in my more mature years, health, not looks, was what gave me the kick in toches to lose weight. I didn't want to spend eternity suffering from and taking meds for an array of weight-related disorders. Still, I don't deny being tickled to be fitting into things I haven't been able to wear in eight or nine years or more. Unfortunately things don't fit at the weight at which I bought them. I have to weigh less before they'll fit. But so be it.

Right now I'm a sliver below the goal weight I set myself six or seven months ago, at which point I thought my tightest skirts would fit. They don't, so the goal's been revised downward to about what I weighed for five minutes on my wedding day while I was still fasting.

Can I get there? And if I get there, can I stay there? Hopefully. But first there's the whole Chanukah challenge to get through, plus the whole winter challenge of eating for warmth and comfort, frequent days when the weather interferes with outdoor activity , etc. Walking several miles a day is my main activity, and trust me, wearing out the carpet walking back and forth in the hallway is a lot less appealing than bundling up and marching to the park. But with ice on the ground, power walking is not a wise idea.

In any event, even at my wedding, I was cushiony, not slim and definitely not skinny. Slim I could handle. Skinny is a turnoff.

I personally think I look better and prettier when I’m thin. But seeing everyone who’s on ozempic now with ozempic face that ages them 20 years is not attractive! I know people who were not that overweight to begin with and went on ozempic and sure they’re emaciated now, but they aged decades overnight.

I want to be healthy, and for me, that's directly tied to my weight. I also want to have an easier time shopping.

At 5'3" and 210lbs, I'll be absolutely thrilled if I can lose 50lbs, which would make me 160lbs. I definitely wouldn't be skinny but I'd look pretty good, I think, and I'd be perfectly content with that.
I eat super healthy, clean, and focus on balancing my blood sugar. But alas, the weight doesn't budge...if anyone has any secret tips to share, please do!

I do it for myself and how I look in clothes. If someone told me to gain a couple of pounds I would think that’s weird. I don’t tell people to lose or gain weight and I would think it inappropriate if someone would tell me that. It’s 125 not 105 and it’s a perfectly reasonable weight for me.
