My husband just paid $11,000 more in taxes than his equally paid partner.
I work part time for $30,000 gross and already had a good amount of taxes withheld.
I just realized that there’s zero point in me working. I’m barely getting paid.

Do you guys have a good accountant? Is your salary at least covering childcare costs?

Well you need to do the math and decide if it's worth it. You're probably paying close to 50% of your income in taxes, and how much is childcare?

Either don’t work or find a better paying job

I was doing it for extra spending money which is fine but it just makes me feel gross for how little I am getting for my work. It’s not worth it.
I will prob be bored if I quit but I might just cut down a ton now.

Same here. My accountant told me it’s so not worth it for me to work. We were paying 55% of our income in taxes. Like you I was earning about $30,000. I made more money by quitting my job and cutting back on household expenses. And paying less babysitting. That was 10 years ago.
Now that my youngest will iyh start school next year, I’m planning to go back.
But since I’ve been out of it for so long I feel like I’ll be returning to my field like an entry level, even though I have several years experience. So for that it might be worth it to stay. Depends how hard it is for you to work.

Was that 11k because you working bumped your tax bracket or because the partner has other deductions like more kids, energy efficient renovations, higher housing costs etc.

It depends. I need my income. But even if I didn’t, I would need to start all over again in my field if I left work and don’t have current experience. I might never be able to go back.

Can you explain this? How does 55% work?

Federal, state and probably self employment taxes (social security x2). Also, some credits phase out at a certain income level, I'm just guessing here.

If you think you’re worth more than find a better job.
