Stuffed mushrooms... Such a patchke of chopping the veggies SMALL, sauteeing them took a really long time, then baking in the oven and they go so quickly (they are delicious but such a patchke)
Potato Kugel - I don't have a braun food processor so I use my cuisinart... I need to open and empty the bowl of the processor 5-6 times and it is SOOOOOO time consuming. I hate making potato kugel.
I once saw a mousse cake in a magazine. I tried making it. It required 3 bowls. I was so upset at how patchkadik it was that I threw out the recipe, even though it was delicious, because I'm never making it again.

Everyday recipes are simple.
Yom tov and birthdays I go all out. I'm not making every yom tov and it's not so often that I'm happy to do it.
I actually love to patchke, and loved cooking when I was single. But I had a big kitchen to work in, the cleaning lady to wash up if I timed it right, and it was entirely optional, no obligation to cook.

Can you take me through the recipe and steps for wafer cake? I've always been awed when I see one.

Milchig cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. They're so yummy but ugh, so many steps! So much to clean after!

I don't have any patchkedik recipes. I'm philosophically opposed to them. Also to recipes with more than 7-8 ingredients, and it helps if four of them are spices already in my cabinet.
ETA: Probably potato latkes, of which I make one batch once a year on Chanukah. I may skip them this year as I'm watching my weight and we have parties to attend.

Stuffed meat roll with mushroom sauce
Birthday cakes- I do like playing with frosting to make cool cakes but my kids have become spoiled… for each of their birthdays I first make a cake in 2 round pans and freeze, then the night before their birthday I make frosting and frost the two layer cake according to their requests. First frost and freeze for a few minutes to set crumbs, then frost on top. This past birthday the frosting was 4 different colors. Then the number of the age they turn out out of chocolate covered with sprinkles on a stick which I stick into the top of the cake, and something like mazel tov child’s name and some balloons or hearts drawn with chocolate on top.
That’s a regular birthday cake, not going to start with our upshernish cakes and cookies…

You should do my method in the instant pot, literally make it like an hour or 2 before shabbos. So yummy!

I buy chicken bones in a net. Turkey necks. I buy already cut veggies. Put fresh herbs in an herb bag. It’s basically dump in a pot and comes out delicious ☺️

I also make homemade birthday cakes, would love to hear what fillings and frostings you do (I try to avoid margarine so I feel like that limits my frostings. It never comes out as pretty as in my head)

Vegetable Soup Hack - makes 8 soups
Biggest patchke is peeling, processing and sauteing so many vegetables.
So do it once and divide and freeze bags of sauted veggies.
vegetable soup stock
2 lb Onions- I use 2 Huge Onions
processed, saute 10 minutes
Process and add the rest of vegetables
.75 lb carrots
6 big sticks celery or 1/2 a celery root
Large parsnip
Zucchini
Turnip
Bell pepper, any color
Tomato
Saute vegetables 30 minutes.
Cool and divide into 8 baggies.
Put baggies in freezer bag.
To make soup
Add bag of veggies to 5 cups water.
Add salt n pepper
No need to defrost first.
Cook 15 minutes.
You can add other veggies to soup
Potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, mixed vegetables, butternut squash,
canned beans
And then blend.
If adding extra veggies, add more water.

I’m not sure which one is the most patchka. But here’s a few.
Russian Napoleon
Gefilte fish from scratch. As is from whole fish.
And fancy celebration cake with multiple layers and decorations.
Beef Wellington
Cranberry curd tart from NY Times
Ethiopian honey tart.
Cannoli - real ones.
Macarons.

So I do use margarine for birthday cakes, and use the same frosting to fill the cake. It’s not healthy but it’s birthday cake a few times a year.
Here’s the recipe I usually use:

I make this all the time, and homemade pizza as well. We also sometimes make a more herby type of dip instead of this recipe - more of a pesto type of sauce for the same pizza bubble ring idea. Both are delicious.
The dough is very easy to make in a bread machine. It has cut my "patchke" time in half because it does the mixing and rising for you. I use my bread machine for other recipes like Onion Bread, Babka (chocolate, cinnamon, and cheese, or combined mixtures of these), sourdough bagels (I make sourdough bread by hand, but for the bagels a mixer is recommended).
I think my biggest patchke, though, is homemade cheese blintzes. Standing and doing those crepes, now that's a patchke. I do it because it's delicious. And I serve it with homemade strawberry sauce, because it tastes really good.
