Wondering how much people pay in tuition… 100%? 50%? Did you have to meet with the school to determine how much you will pay?
How did you determine how much tuition you will be paying and is the school ok with it? Do you skimp on tuition and go on vacation or splurge on other things?

DH seems to think based off his father that no one pays full tuition except the rich joneses. He feels it’s unattainable. I’m wondering what is actually realistic.

Our school has a whole process to fill out with last year's income, projected income for the next year, amount of children, etc and you have to state all finances and can write at the end why you need a break. They also ask how much you think you can pay. They have a board that decides. It's all through email. If it's not enough you can email further to negotiate.

Where ai live most people don't pay full because full is an insane amount, but I don't know about other places.

Eta we pay about 60%

We pay full but in Baltimore it's still "reasonable." I.e. elementary is appx 11-12k. I have friends in CT who school cost like 30k so we could never afford that.

I was planning on paying full even though I can’t afford it even remotely, but I found out the bill was double (literally) what I was expecting. So now I’m applying for financial aid to pay the lowest amount possible, which will be too much anyways

You must have girls. Boys schools in Baltimore are about 14k for elementary.

We pay about 30% of full I think. Our total out-of-pocket per year is roughly the equivalent to 1 kid full tuition and we have 3 in school (though one is SK which is much lower bc it is heavily government subsidized BH). Plus IEP and bus fees are another $3-4k/year, not subsidized. Our federation has a subsidy structure where you pay a set amount (% of your income) if you have 1-3 kids in school and make within a certain income range (I think 120-350k). Will have another kid in school next year BH so will have to go through the whole complicated subsidy application (for 4+ kids) vs this simplified one. I actually think what we pay is very fair. Things are tight mostly due to a high COL area.

We pay full tuition as well as donating extra when the school asks. It is about 90,000 total.

I'm paying full tuition, about $10,000. I sometimes feel resentful when my daughter tells me that everybody is going to Florida for midwinter vacation or that everybody wears jewelry to school. I could afford full tuition but not those luxuries and some how many families taking tuition breaks are able to afford these luxuries.

We pay full, but we both grew up living simply and our parents prioritized paying tuition before other extras no vacations just day trips, or visiting grandparents… no chicken only on shabbos,

BH were all doing better than grew up but still have those values. Full tuition for 2 kids is equivalent of 4 kids somewhere else 🙈

We pay full when we can. (there were years we couldn't and the schools in baltimore have a joint process. You fill out a form once and check off all the schools)

I'm paying full for 4 kids and almost full for the 5th. 3 are in yeshiva but one is in EY and there is additional cost for a dira, etc (that is the one I pay close to full)

It's not cheap but something we try really hard to do. We don't do big vacations (more a couple day road trip every few years) and try to keep our expenses down so that we can pay tuition.
