Why is being in style a bad thing?

My issue is that short coats aren't warm enough. I need my legs covered too. Tights or leggings isn't enough.

Not that anyone asked lol, but personally I wish people developed their own sense of style instead of everyone wearing the same thing… Totally no issue with wearing what’s in style if that’s what you prefer though. It seems like that’s a short black matte down coat, from what others answered. I have a longish wool coat that I think is very warm and has a simple elegance (also not that anyone asked Wink )

I did need a new coat this year and I just bought the warmest one I could find in a price range. I like fashion but I really don't care for it while I'm waiting at the bus stop with my little one in 20 degree weather.

Am I the only one who just keeps my coat from previous years if it's in good shape and it fits? Am it "with-out it" ?

Same. I keep coats for years.

This is such a in town question
A with it frum coat!!
I am sorry it’s hilarious and quite frustrating that every woman want to wear a uniform
Where is the individuality?
Yes I am proudly an out of towner
I am very well dressed I am told and would not wear a puffer coat
I wear a tailored coat
I Have many Colors and prints and patterns
That is why fashion and style are two different things! You may be with it because everyone is wearing it but you have no style
Sorry but I cannot stand this herd in town mentality
Get out of the bubble mentality people

So do I, but in Israel we wear our winter coats for a much shorter period, so they last longer.

Firstly, you are very patronizing. You sound really young and immature.
Secondly, not everyone "loves standing out" I know I personally don't.
Thirdly, there's nothing wrong with wanting to wear the style that other people are wearing. No need to make it sound like the worst thing on the planet.
Fourthly, some people actually don't have their own sense of style. Like me. I don't really know what looks good on me. I just don't have the knack for these things and don't have style I specifically think look better on me than others. So why not just buy what we know is standard and won't stand out.
And Fifthly, hate to break it to you but theres plenty of peer pressure and dressing "with it" and "in style" in OOT communities.

Fashion and style are not mutually exclusive!
You may be wearing the coat that everyone is wearing and with it but you may have zero style.
People with a good sense of style have no fear of dressing differently than everyone else

I’m in Israel. I love Zara short puffer coats. Quite warm but not sure if warm enough for NY. But for sure in style and the look you are describing. I’ve had mine for a few years as someone above said we don’t need them as much here.

So what you are saying is your fashion sense is the right way. And we should all follow your styles. Like prints and patterns. And we can’t wear solid black because that’s not your fashion sense. Yeah that totally makes sense. Sounds like you are in a bubble of prints and patterns. Should we emulate your beautiful middos too? We can start with not standing someone who is not like us, and we can move into mocking people, then we can tell everyone we are the best definitely better than the rest, and then finish off telling everyone to be just like us. Did I get it all? Do people on here not own mirrors?

It’s even worse pressure. It’s fit in to oot pressures or be ostracized. And don’t you dare look anything like in town or we will turn up our noses and snob out that horrible in town that you got in you.

My impression wasn't that everyone in her community wears colorful coats.

Rather, that everybody wears whatever coat she wants, be them colorful or black or wool or puffer or leather, and nobody gives a hoot.

Because why should anybody care about something so trivial and superficial?

Why all the bullying?
No one is going to think you are better if you bully others online!
Why in the world do people think it's okay to put their noses in the air that they are "better" all the while hurling stones at others. It's snobbish high school pettiness.
Leave her alone.
She is asking for recommendations not all this high school bullying.

Oh please, no one was trying to make fun of OP. It was worded a little funny, so we had a little laugh. Yes, the thought of a coat being "frum" and "with-it" made us chuckle and we pointed it out.

Nothing wrong with asking which coat is in-style or where to purchase it, if one is buying a coat anyhow. I think OP got some answers.

What do you mean “we” and “us”? Don’t hide behind other people once people point out you’re being a bully.

Yes me too! I have had my coat for more than 7 years. I frankly don’t have much of a style and feel like I could use a coat that fits in a little more. I moved recently to a more in town area and I notice that everyone seems to wear other styles than me. I don’t know many people and trying to meet new people (yes I wish what we wore didn’t make a difference but it does)

Why not approach someone who's coat you admire and ask them where they got it? It's a great conversation starter and might help you to find where to shop to blend in more like you want?

A bully's defense. "What was wrong with pointing out her hair looked funny? I thought she should know!" "Why shouldn't I have had a nice laugh at what she did at the meeting... It was funny! We had a little laugh?" All innocent Rolling Eyes

If you would like to actually play your little snobby game of making fun of in towners or people that like style. Take it to a different thread. You may get away with bullying in the outside world. You are not fooling us here.
