I was hoping if the thread was still "live" it was because someone else had posted links.
I'm the op of the original thread this is a spin off of. I bought my last coat about ten years ago. It doesn't really keep me warm anymore. And now that I'm buying a new one, I'd like it to be somewhat similar to what people are wearing. If you have a problem with that, I'm sorry for you.

A with it frum coat!!
I am sorry it’s hilarious and quite frustrating that every woman want to wear a uniform
Where is the individuality?
Yes I am proudly an out of towner
I am very well dressed I am told and would not wear a puffer coat
I wear a tailored coat
I Have many Colors and prints and patterns
That is why fashion and style are two different things! You may be with it because everyone is wearing it but you have no style
Sorry but I cannot stand this herd in town mentality
Get out of the bubble mentality people |
Honestly this is the opposite side of the same coin.
She has a need to fit in you have a need to stand out.
You want to be perceived a certain way, not as a herd mentality person.
You put effort when you shop in order to stand out.
The real neutral is not caring at all and just buying whatever you need whatever you find, no matter if it's in style or different.
Maybe the phrasing was a bit weird, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to buy a typical classic black coat that you can wear for a few years.

Rather, that everybody wears whatever coat she wants, be them colorful or black or wool or puffer or leather, and nobody gives a hoot.
Because why should anybody care about something so trivial and superficial? |
Everyone cares. Everyone just cares about different things. When you go to the store you care about certain qualifications, it might be price, warmth, not being exactly like everyone, a zipper, a hood etc.. she’s not putting in any more work than if she had said I need links for a down jacket with a zipper and hood. It costs her and everyone the same amount of time to give her the links she specified. The whole preaching at her and telling her how stupid she is, means it’s taking up too much real estate in everyone’s head. And that’s more of an issue than her writing her specifications.

Nothing wrong with asking which coat is in-style or where to purchase it, if one is buying a coat anyhow. I think OP got some answers. |
So it’s just fine to laugh at someone? It was worded fine. People on here just pounce the second you say you want to fit in, or with it, as if there is only room in this world for people who want to stand out and be different.

So interesting. They were mostly about $75 (which is not “so cheap” imo) and look pretty similar to the sam/s2 coats to me. Curious what makes them stand out as “cheap looking” to you?

I just got this. It's very warm but is a bit bulky. I think it looks cute. I didn't want a hod because it ruins my wig.

Can you link better options? I'd spend up to 200 for a good coat.

Not sure how old Op is, but you can find stylish options on Zara, aritzia, Alo and lululemon. Right now shorter, matte puffers are more in style.

So my coat is over six years old. I purposely bought grey matt, not a puffer,
I can spot my coat a mile away and don’t have to search for it in the teacher’s room or anywhere else.
It is a good warm coat( with many inside and outside pockets)
But it is a 3/4 coat. I moved to jackson and now need a short jacket to wear in the car.
Any links to non black, nonpuffer, non shiny, no fur would be appreciated.

Way too short to be warm enough, sorry, I'm practical like that.

Nicole81, OP said nothing about replacing her coat every year. For all we know, she's been wearing her old coat for so long that the fabric is transparent, the lining shredded, and the seams disintegrate a little more every time she sneezes.

I’m not sure why links aren’t working v now. Here are a few coats I saw rlly quickly. Gap also has some stuff now at great price point. Saks off fifth as well
Nordstrom
-Bernardo faux sterling double breasted longline coat
-Zella duvet insulated coat
-Levi’s side zip hoodie maxi puffer jacket - I would definitely add a belt to give it shape tho
-astr the label Londyn cowl neck coat (my fav)

Nothing over $40. Stylish enough. The important thing is to be warm, especially if you live up north. I get all my jackets, coats, scarves, leggings, and baselayers here.
