Does this exist: looking for a 1st year place. That's inspiring like a 1st yr place in EY but in the US, pref tristate but would def consider outside tristate. White shirt/black hat but worldly type, into sports is ok. Need a place that encourages, inspires, gives life hashkafa and also not intense learning. Good boys, no smoking etc. any ideas?

The highschool is probably his "type" but I assumed the bm was there more for the bm to inspire the highschool. Do they "inspire" the bm boys too? Or are they looking for "finished product" types in the bm?

The Minneapolis BM is more of the "finished product" type, it is not the same as the HS.

Ner Yisroel first year is too intense for what you're looking for.

There are probably tens of batei medrash that might work.

Do you have a size preference?
Where is he coming from?
What level shiur are you looking for?
What type of connection does he want: a rebbe that he stays with for years? A RY/menahel/mashgiach?
Does he want a varied summer program or just continued learning in the regular Yeshiva setting?

To be honest, it's a little early for American BM applications.... That's more pesach time.

you are correct, ner yisroel first year bm is too intense for him. I also don't think it's a real "first year place" like the places in Israel, rather it's a continuation of hs so it's a given you are on a certain learning and hashkafic level. I'm looking for something a little different. where they connect more and give over inspiring hashkafa.
No size preference, but I'd imagine the type of place I'm looking for won't be very big.
I don't know how to rate a shiur level, but I am familiar with Ner, and I would say maybe lower shiur Ner level or maybe a drop higher, but not on the mainstream Ner level.
I don't know what type of connection he wants, that's a good question. I think a relatable rebbe with a good personality.
I would want a varied summer program for him. (I don't know what he would want, that didn't come up yet.)

It is early, but I would also consider EY if I don't think there are good options here, but I'll run out of time for that. The problem is he's a funny fit for first year in EY too. He can benefit from the real first year places like mercaz, senders etc but he is used to a yeshiva a little more to the right of that and probably would not go for those places. So that's the problem Smile

Senders in Monsey might have a good vibe for him, varied learning levels. Around 70 bochurim between all the shiurim.

My son looked into Weinberg's in Monsey and has a very good impression of it, it's smaller, younger RY, easy to form a kesher.

Someone mentioned Ohr Hatorah in Baltimore. It's a great place but I'm not getting the sense that your son davka would do better there than a tristate Yeshiva. It's more heterogenous than some other yeshivos, many bochurim who aren't officially enrolled are magnetically attracted to it because it really is a positive atmosphere, but I am not sure that's what your son needs.

I don't know much about so many tristate yeshivos but I know there probably is a good fit for him!

Can his current rebbe give any guidance?

Thanks for the reply. Did your son go...is your son in Senders? If yes where did he go to HS/where are the boys coming from? I heard the name and will look into it more.

The thing is he's a good boy and wants to be in yeshiva but (and maybe Bec he's not great at it) he doesn't seem to be getting a geshmak from learning. Also from previous years and younger years I see the younger more inspiring and fun rebbeim are the ones he enjoys.

His yeshiva isn't great with the placements for bm. We will definitely ask them but he's probably going to be one of their trickier placements so I wanted to get some recommendations.

There's someone in Lakewood named Rabbi Binyomin Strauss who meets with boys, gets to know what they need, and makes recommendations. He knows all the yeshivos really well and he's very on the mark.

He's in the "phone book" or likely you can google him.

This is a very good suggestion to look into for your son. I know a boy who sounds similar to yours who is doing well there.
