My 1 1/2 year old has been on Motrin at night for the past couple of weeks. She can't sleep without it. Two trips to the doctor found nothing wrong. Then I noticed a tremendous cavity in a molar. Now, since last night, she's been screaming while eating. And tonight she was screaming for a long time. I calmed her down and then I touched the tooth and she started shrieking in agony.
It's Thursday night. I need to get her to a dentist ASAP. We are about to switch dentists but the new one doesn't take our insurance. I am planning to switch insurances to use them. What should I do? I don't know if they'll give me an appointment tomorrow if I call in the morning, even if I pay out of pocket. Our old dentist insists kids this age need to be put to sleep when they have cavities filled, and they don't allow parents in the room with the kid.

Just adding that she does not drink a bottle. She nurses and drinks water during the day from a sippy cup. I never heard of a toddler with cavities like that unless they drink bottles.

I think you need to be getting an emergency appointment at the old dentist. Nothing else to do.

This is so painful, my son had similar, only a little older. It was a root canal, but they didn’t do it right away, first they gave me meds for the infection… it might likely be infected if the pain is so excruciating!
I would say first call in the morning for an emergency.. my kids dentists allows walk ins for emergencies, there’s just no choice! Loads of luck
