Im sure the school is privately being accommodating to the people they know need it.

Why dont we restructure tuition as a 30 year mortgage? 2k a year per child per year. Obviously the first cycle needs a lot of funding and there needs to be a way to enforce it but...this way no one gets a tuition break either

I don't know much about this particular school, but I have definitely heard from people that certain schools were not accommodating at all. And were unrealistic about the parents ability to pay.

This is likely true.
Dh and I were discussing that with 4 kids and living in Lakewood with cheaper tuition, we feel that 200 k a year is not manageable and one would need 300 k to pay all bills.
More than that to feel comfortable and have breathing space and save and invest a decent amount. And more than that with more kids- 4 kids is prob on lower end in Lakewood.
But I’d be shocked if majority of parents are making over 200k. Sure, plenty are but it’s not the majority. It’s the very noticeable (bec of their cars etc) minority.

I don’t think the solution is parents paying a majority of their salary for school. So kids grow up with a yeshiva education but zero life?

Some random thoughts...
You are not middle class if you are living paycheck to paycheck. Nowhere near middle class. People here think that once you don't qualify for government programs you're considered middle class. You're not. Middle class is if you have a cushion of *at least* a few months in reserve so that if you ch"v lose your job you can live comfortably for 3-4 months before going into debt. At minimum. Living paycheck to paycheck doesn't allow for saving, so you're not middle class, you're poor. This is the situation of most families being discussed here.
Regarding kollel and tuition, and foe those saying he should get a job. We sold our house at 35K profit when dh was in kollel so that we can pay tuition with that money. We rent to this day, at much lower cost than our mortgage was. That was our choice, to avoid him having to go to work. Our kids are older now, but the choice to prioritizing tuition EVEN while in kollel is one that people make. Incidentally, when that money ran out a few years later, we sold jewelry and valuables to cover tuition until we were on stronger financial footing and able to juggle tuition.
Regarding camp, just acknowledge you owe them money and they will work with you. One camp sent us a letter and I called to ask if they can wait until we got our tax money. They did, and we paid up the day we got it. Now they trust us and do it for us gladly. If you ignore debt it doesn't go away, it just angers the school or camp that you're ignoring them.

The schools need to work something out because I'd like to know where the money goes. Why do other religious schools manage better and for less tuition? Why do many frum schools have so many administrators? |

Because if you earn more than what qualifies for govt programs, they will suck out every penny they can in taxes, and dont even start me on healthcare.
