True, I forgot about that.
But I still think that people don't refer to adults as orphans.

Yeah! For her sil to tell her she's not a good mother, or doesn't know how to be a mother, when she never had a mother. I felt like that was unrealistic in the cruelty, at least I hope it was!

I definitely get that vibe.

I found this week's part to not offer too much - we already know there are weird things going on in this house, boys being followed, etc. I hope next week brings a new development.

I also thought it was weird when Gabe or whoever said "what else is there to know?" A lot actually!

It seems strange that it even feels like a dead end, because IRL there would be all sorts of records about Moish, wouldn't there? And they even know he graduated from Bearwood high or wherever. Nu, get records! birth, death, family, there should be so much more. Seems like a copout to say he was an orphan, or no siblings, I don't know, why can't they find out more?

I am really enjoying this serial.

I found that Suri/sister in law v Rivi episode so upsetting. They were so mean to her and she got the blame for reacting.

Honestly that didn't seem so realistic with her just being out of aveilus and they were just openly hostile and cruel. I can't believe that two grown women would do that especially to their sil.

I know it is fiction but it hit v hard. I really feel for Rivi, she is trying so hard to do her best in the situation she is in and everyone is so awful to her and she is so unhappy.

OP: SIL neglecting home

I can't hold it in anymore. My amazing brothers wife is neglecting her home, her kids, just so she can excel in her career. She thinks her salary excuses basic mentchlechkeit.
My brother literally does everything and swallow a lot!! She shirks her responsibilities to my parents as well. Its horrible to see her disrespectful at family gatherings. Shes a noshow unless we all beg and cajole her to join us. Such a prima donna!
She grew up with this weird situation and her mother died young, her father a recluse, brother is otd or something like that.
We told my brother not to pursue this shidduch, but he made the biggest mistake of his life. She throws her salary in our faces and lords over us any normal help siblings do for each other.
She has no heart and I am afraid my nephews and neices will think this is normal.
How can we get brother to make his wife behave? We do our best to interfere, but clearly not enough.
Help us!

And this is what we call interfering in-laws. Your brother chose this life, let him and his wife be!

Agree, I really thought we'd meet the intruder this week. This chapter should've concluded with his appearance

I think u may be correct. He's the only one with possible access every search they do and he knew they went to Bearwood because Penina works for him and he probably overheard.

I’m enjoying the crime aspect of this serial because it’s so much edgier than typical frum literature.

I’m also wondering about last week’s episode mentioning that (the real) Avigdor Cohen lived extravagantly and spent a lot of money. Maybe he borrowed money from the mafia and they killed him..

Rivi is still in the period of mourning, so people need to be more careful with her feelings.

But I don't think one would put her in the category of orphan once she is married.

Although she is technically an orphan, most people become an orphan at some point. We don't call a 60 year old an orphan when he loses his parent.
We call a child who lost his parent an orphan, because it denotes a certain responsibility on the community to protect the orphan.

Fine. She just lost her second parent.
Be kind. At any age.

Yes. My point is that she may technically be an orphan but we don't call a married woman who lost a parent an orphan.
Orphan is the word we use for a dependant who lost their parent.
My parents both lost both of their parents in their 60s and 70s. But no one is calling them orphans.

Trust me: Married people still feel "yasom v'almanah ye'ode" resonates.

Hi, OP. You're a good, loving sister.
But I would take a page from teachers who are annoyed with students. Work on finding a nekudah to like in them, and on making them your allies.
Try to remember what your brother saw in her and try to see it today, and telegraph that you're seeing it.
Hatzlachah and may you see many peiros in the steps you're taking for shalom.

I agree. If they know what school he attended, there should be some people who remember him. Shuls, rabbonim, addresses, neighbors, etc..

All this leads me to wonder how her husband could have married Rivi. Wouldn't he have done a bit of background check? Sounds like Rivi's husband(forgot his name) comes from a pretty standard family.

I’ve been thinking the same for a while. His mother doesn’t sound the type to have chosen a dil from that kind of home. I think they met and fell in love, on a bus, on a train, at an airport, on line at the supermarket or delivering tomchei Shabbos. I wonder if we’ll get the details.
