What do you need it for?
Makes a big difference to know what to look for.
GB do you mean RAM or SSD?

What work do you do?
Is it with programs or graphics or just one or 2 web pages open?
Both RAM & SSD (memory) is measured by GB but are needed for different things which one are you refering to?

It’s $299 on sale but normal about $800. It’s $330 with tax but then if you have a chase card check your deals on the app, you get $50 back on bp products which this is!

Recommended by my friends IT DH:)

It is a very good deal.
If you need storage memory I would upgrade it to the 500gb

HP good laptops are now better than the cheap Dell.
DH is a computer technician and has full stock of all the replaceable pieces for Dell because ever week atleast 2 dell computers break.
HP have really upped the quality lately and Dell have lowered it for the cheaper range.

DH and I both work on a computer all day. I have been buying Dell for 20+ years. A $400-500 Dell usually last me about 5 years. I one time bought an HP and it lasted about a year before I had so many issues and couldn't use it anymore.
Just my personal experience

Unless you are buying a good Dell it's a market change that has happened in the past 2-3 yrs. Before that DH was advising everyone to only buy Dell regardless of the model and stay away from HP.
If your last laptop was bought 5 yrs ago than yea A dell would have been a better investment.
Now they are still good but majority need the charger port and hinges replaced within the first 3 years plus more issues which HP new models don't have problems. You end up over the yr paying more to fix it up than if you would have gotten the HP which has the same motherboard so the essential use of the pc would have been the same quality.
This is just what I'm seeing from my community and all the technicians DH collabs with.

Similar to Dell, either a good expensive Lenovo or if you want a cheaper option for a laptop stick to HP or Asus, you get a better pc for the same price.
Lenovo has the name for being built well. The cheaper versions are not built to last.
The difference between cheap Lenovo and cheap Dell is that Lenovo don't need things replacing like the cheap Dell do.

If I'm not so worried about cost and would rather pay more up front for quality and durability, which lines are considered the better and more reliable Dell and Lenovo?

The main ones to stay away from are Lenovo Ideapads and Dell Vostro.
Then you have to just make sure you are getting one that covers your needs.
You want to make sure its a good motherboard e.g i5 .12and up or core 5 etc,
if you are running heavy programs you want ideally i7/core 7 but i5/core 5 might still be ok and a high RAM 16-32gb.
if graphics is part of the job you need a good graphic card inbuilt.
if its just basic good home use you can stick with i3 or core 3 and a basic office is i5/core 5 (just make sure the number after i3/5 is a high number)
The easiest thing for a technician to change is the SSD size so that would be the last thing to focus on (ofcourse its better if you can get for similiar pricing a 500gb-1tb so you dont have to mess with the computer)
